Caldwell Wins Second CACC Women's Soccer Title in Three Years with 2-0 Win over Holy Family on Sunday

WATERBURY, Conn. (November 4, 2018) -- Caldwell University scored a goal in both the first and second halves and it was all the Cougars needed in defeating Holy Family University, 2-0, on Sunday to claim th 2018 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Championship at LaMoy Field in Waterbury, Conn.

The Cougars improved to 12-6-1 on the season and locked up the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament, which will be held next weekend at a site to be determined. HFU fell to 12-5-1 on the year. The fourth-seeded Cougars knocked off a higher-seeded team for the second match in a row, as Holy Family was the No. 3 seed in the tournament.

Carlyn Salus scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 19th minute off an assist from Amber Raines, while Meghan Grundhauser solidified her status at tournament most valuable player with an unassisted tally in the 64th.

Holy Family held an 18-6 advantage in shots, but Jamie-Lee Bamford came up huge in goal for Caldwell, as she turned aside all seven shots faced to earn the shutout win and land on the CACC All-Tournament Team. Bree Rock, Kaitlyn Findlay and Alyssa Christiansen each paced the Tigers with four shots apiece.
