WILMINGTON WINS 2012 CACC WOMEN’S SOCCER TITLE

WILMINGTON-PHILADELPHIA BOX SCORE

WATERBURY, Conn. (November 4, 2012) – Junior Chelsea Grace (Palmyra, N.J.) scored a goal of an assist from sophomore Victoria Vasapolli (Burlington, N.J.) in the 58th minute to lift No. 1 seed Wilmington University to a 1-0 victory over No. 2 seed Philadelphia University on Sunday afternoon in the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Championship Game.

Grace put away a cross from Vasapolli from 18 yards out to end a scoreless deadlock over the opening 57:53.  Wilmington prevailed despite being out-shot for the match 10-8 as Wildcats' goalkeeper Amanda Walters (Baltimore, Md.) turned away all six shots on goal en route to the shutout.

With the win, Wilmington improves to 13-6-2 overall, while Philadelphia slips to 13-7-0.

The title marks Wilmington's first-ever CACC Women's Soccer Tournament crown and marks the first time since 2007 (Holy Family) that a team has swept both the regular season and tournament titles in women's soccer.

Vasapolli was named the most valuable player of the championship and was joined on the All-Tournament squad by Walters (Wilmington), Grace (Wilmington), Jenna Quaranta (Wilmington), Morgan Fraczkowski (Wilmington), Janine Cascio (Philadelphia), Melissa Copeland (Philadelphia), Kristen Ferguson (Philadelphia), Denisha Thomas (Georgian Court), Carleigh Gorman (Georgian Court), Megan Ferrara (Caldwell) and Sarina Soriano (Caldwell).
