NEW HAVEN - Brianne Redelheim, a senior at Holy Family University, has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Player of the Year in balloting released today. Post University freshman Kelli Veras was voted as the Rookie of the Year and Georgian Court University head coach Jim Moore is the choice for the Coach of the Year. Nyack College has been given the annual Team Sportsmanship Award. The 11 conference head coaches conducted the voting.
Redelheim, who has earned first team All-CACC honors for three consecutive years, ranked third in the CACC in the regular-season for total points (30) and points per-game (1.67). She also tied for third in goals (10) and assists (10) and was seventh in shots per-game (3.17). Redelheim, a native of Philadelphia, helped the Tigers finish second in the CACC regular-season standings with an 8-1-1 record to go with a 10-6-2 overall mark.
Veras, who hails from Trumbull, CT, was one of the most dangerous offensive players in the conference and ranked first in the CACC in assists (11) and assists per-game (0.65). Furthermore, she stood seventh in both points (21) and points per-game (1.24). With help from Veras, the Eagles finished the season with a 10-6-3 overall record and a 7-2-1 conference mark.
With Moore leading the way, Georgian Court staged the most dramatic turnaround in the nation from 2005 to 2006. The Lions entered the CACC Tournament as the #3 seed after going 11-5-2 overall and 7-1-2 in the CACC. That was accomplished just one season after going 2-14-1 overall and 2-8-1 in conference play. The Lions set school records for overall wins, conference wins and goals scored along the way.
The complete 2006 All-CACC Women's Soccer team is listed below. Holy Family and Wilmington College both had three players named to the first team, while Philadelphia, Holy Family, Caldwell and Post led the way with four All-CACC players each.
