GCU Women's Lacrosse Makes it Three Years in a Row of Claiming CACC Championship w/ 20-7 Win over Jefferson

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (May 4, 2019) -- Georgian Court University made three-consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Lacrosse Championships in a row on Saturday with a 20-7 victory over Jefferson in the 2019 Championship Final at the GCU Turf Field in Lakewood, N.J.

The Lions were thorough in their second-half performance, as GCU outscored Jefferson, 11-2, in the final 30 minutes to pull away for the victory. CACC Player of the Year Samantha Fernandez earned tournament most valuable player honors by striking for a game-high eight goals in her final collegiate game. It was a fitting end to one of the finest players in CACC Women's Lacrosse History. Madison Heck and Arianna Quinlan each added three goals in the win.

Fernandez scored four of her goals in the second, including a string of three straight over a four-minute span to make it 17-6 and set in the running clock. Heck and Nicole Barbella each added an assist during Fernandez's run.

Camryn Sullivan scored a team-high three markers for Jefferson, including notching the game's first goal a little more than four minutes in to stake the Rams to an early 1-0 lead. However, the Lions ran off five-consecutive goals to make it 5-1. Shaine Sauter kick-started the surge with a tally, while Fernandez and Heck took turns trading goals to cap the run.

Erin Eckert and Sarah von Lange followed with back-to-back goals to pull the Rams to within a pair, but Georgian Court rallied with four-consecutive markers to open up a 9-3 lead to take control. Fernandez added two more in the surge, while Nicole Barbella tossed in one while assisting on two others.

Georgian Court outshot Jefferson, 35-17, and put 30 of those on goal.

Amber Neumann stopped seven shots to help backstop the Lions to victory.
