Caldwell's Kassaleh & GCU's Barbella, Fernandez Named 2019 IWLCA All-Region Honorees

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 21, 2019) -- A trio of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's lacrosse standouts this week were recognized as all-region honorees from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), as announced by the national coaches organization. The list included Caldwell University's Arden Kassaleh and Georgian Court University's Nicole Barbella and Samantha Fernandez, as the trio earned Second-Team All-Atlantic Region honors from the IWLCA.

Kassaleh turned in another record-shattering season for the Cougars in 2019. She became the first Cougar to surpass 200 points and the first to reach the 200-goal plateau. Kassaleh broke her single season goals and points records with 94 and 110 respectively. She tied her single game goals record of 10 in a game three times this season. Kassaleh set a new single season school record with 125 draw controls.

Kassaleh ended her junior season with 263 points and 223 goals, both program records. She led the CACC in goals and draw controls, second in points and free-position goals and tenth in assists. Kassaleh led the nation with 5.53 goals per game and was third in Division II in goals. She ranked third in the DII in points per game, 11th in total points and 12th in draw controls per game.

She becomes the first all-region honoree in program history.

Fernandez, the three-time CACC Player of the Year,  paced the Georgian Court offense with her 77 goals on the season (2nd in CACC). The all-time leading scorer in program history eclipsed the team record of 206 tallies on April 9 with four goals in a 17-6 home win over Post University. The Toms River, N.J., native netted goals in all but two of GCU's 19 games this season with 12 efforts of three or more in a contest, including a season-high nine in a 16-11 victory vs. Lock Haven University back on March 12.

The superstar senior poured in a game-high eight scores in a 20-7 rout of Jefferson in the 2019 CACC title game, earning Fernandez Tournament MVP honors.

Barbella the conductor of Georgian Court's symphony of success, led all of NCAA Division II nationwide with her 90 assists (4.74 per-game). Along with 27 goals on the year, the All-CACC First Team selection paced the conference with 117 total points.
