Holy Family’s Stephanie McNesby Named 2012 CACC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 30, 2012) – Holy Family junior Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa.) was honored as the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Lacrosse Player of the Year following a vote by the league's seven head coaches.

Dominican freshman Allison Smithwick (Commack, N.Y.) was selected as the 2012 CACC Lacrosse Rookie of the Year.

Wilmington head coach Jackie Trainer was chosen as the 2012 CACC Lacrosse Coach of the Year by her peers, while Georgian Court University was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

McNesby was honored with the league's top honor after a regular season that saw her post 48 goals, which ranked fourth among CACC leaders, along with 17 assists (6th in CACC), 65 points (5th in CACC) and 42 groundballs (3rd in CACC).  She helped guide the Tigers to their first-ever CACC regular-season title with an 11-1 conference mark (12-4 overall).

Smithwick enjoyed a breakthrough rookie campaign as she posted 54 points, which ranked as the ninth-most among CACC leaders.  She finished the regular season with 32 goals (12th in CACC) and 17 assists (6th in CACC).  Smithwick was honored as the CACC Rookie of the Week and Player of the Week once this season and also earned ECAC Player of the Week honors on one ocassion.

Trainer guided Wilmington to a berth in the 2012 CACC Lacrosse Tournament, which begins play on Saturday, May 5 at Georgian Court University, following a regular season which saw the Wildcats post a 9-7 overall mark and a 6-6 record vs. CACC foes.  Trainer is in her first season as the head coach at Wilmington and took over for a program that finished 4-11 overall and 3-9 in the CACC in 2011.

Joining McNesby on the All-CACC first team are Kaitlyn Hall (Wilmington), Jessica Graybeal (Wilmington), Mary Lynn Hankins (Georgian Court), Michelle Fiorvanti (Dominican), Emily Ray (Philadelphia), Taylor Peltzer (Philadelphia), Liz Case (Wilmington), Corinne Coyle (Georgian Court), Caribeth Shappell (Philadelphia), Stephanie Gallo (Georgian Court) and KC Jentzen (Dominican).

The All-CACC Lacrosse Second Team includes Melissa Jenkins (Holy Family), Amanda Cathcart (Georgian Court), Olivia Antonopoulos (Dominican), Andrea Saracco (Philadelphia), Marissa Lawson (Holy Family), Olivia Rotunno (Georgian Court), Gina Mansi (Holy Family), Nicole Covella (Chestnut Hill), Jaclyn Hall (Wilmington), Mallorie Michalak (Post), Molly McCourt (Georgian Court), Rebecca Guethier (Wilmington) and Brianne Timony (Chestnut Hil).

Honorable mention choices include Aubree Williams (Dominican), Allison Kern (Wilmington), Brittany Rhodes (Wilmington) and Brianna Lancetta (Holy Family).

The 2012 CACC Lacrosse Championship will take place on May 5-6 at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J.
