NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 27, 2011) – Philadelphia University junior midfielder Caribeth Shappell has been named the 2011 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year in balloting released by the conference office. Post University's Stephanie Marran was selected Rookie of the Year, while Philadelphia's George Chis-Luca was voted Coach of the Year. Post was given the annual Team Sportsmanship Award. The seven CACC head coaches conducted the voting for the awards.

Shappell, a junior from Lancaster, Pa., has tallied 50 points through 16 contests this season on 24 goals and 26 assists. Shappell ranks second in the CACC in assists per-game (1.62) and assists, and tenth in points per-game (3.12) and eighth in points. Shappell recorded a season-high four goals, along with two assists, in a victory over Post and had a three-goal, four-assist effort in a triumph over Chestnut Hill on April 21. She finished the regular-season with two goals and four assists in a victory over Wilmington. Shappell helped the Rams clinch the No. 2 seed for the upcoming CACC Tournament. PhilaU is 10-6 overall and 10-2 in conference play. Shappell was a second team All-CACC performer last season and was the CACC Tournament MVP in 2009 after leading the Rams to the championship.   

Marran, a freshman from Patchogue, N.Y., has been an offensive force for the Eagles in her first collegiate season. In addition to earning Rookie of the Year honors, she was named to the All-Conference first team. She finished the regular-season with 52 goals in 15 games to go with six assists for 58 total points. She ranks fifth in the conference with 3.47 goals per-game, third in goals, seventh with 3.87 points per-game and fourth in points. Marran registered seven goals and one assist against Dominican, netted six goals against Georgian Court and had five goals and two assists in a setback to Chestnut Hill.    

Chis-Luca, who is in his third season with Philadelphia, has guided the team to the No. 2 seed for the upcoming CACC Tournament, which will be held on April 30 and May 1 at Georgian Court. The Lady Rams are 10-6 overall this season and went 10-2 in conference play. Chis-Luca led PhilaU to the inaugural CACC Championship in 2009. Under his tutelage, five Rams were named to the All-Conference team this season.   

Wilmington's Danielle Niccoli and Georgian Court's Ryan McGrath and Lauren Conaty made the first team for the third straight year. Niccoli was the 2010 CACC Player of the Year.
