USciences Irisa Ye Named 2019-20 CACC WBB Player of the Year; All-League Teams Announced

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 3, 2020) -- University of the Sciences standout Irisa Ye on Tuesday was named the 2019-20 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Ye, who also earned first-team honors, highlighted a list of other major award winners and all-conference honorees announced during the morning. The voting for the league's all-conference and major awards was conducted by the league's 14 head coaches in the sport.

In addition to Ye, Holy Family University's Moe Moore was named the CACC Rookie of the Year, while Georgian Court University's Safiyyah Lee was crowned the conference's defensive player of the year. Ye's head coach, Jackie Hartzell was named the CACC Coach of the Year.

Ye averaged 18.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in helping to guide USciences to an 18-1 league record and the CACC South Division Regular Season Championship. She ranked second in the CACC in scoring, while also ranking among the top 10 in total points (2nd, 520), steals (5th, 54), assists (8th, 88), free throw percentage (6th, 81.4%), free throws made (8th, 83), three-point percentage (7th, 38.2%), field goal percentage (4th, 51.4%) and field goals made (2nd, 199). Ye scored in double-figures in all but one game this season, including topping 20 points 11 times. Her season-best was a 34-point outing in a victory at Georgian Court on Feb. 12. 

Moore was the named the league's top rookie after averaging 12.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game during the regular season. Moore ranked eighth in the CACC in rebounding during the regular season. She posted 17 games of scoring in double-figures this season. Moore's highest scoring output was 23 points against Dominican College on Feb. 1.

Lee was voted as the league's top defensive player after ranking among the top seven in the league in the categories of rebounds, blocks and steals. She led the league in total defensive rebounds (168), while ranking fourth with 209 total boards. Her rebounding average of 8.4 boards a night was the fifth-highest average in the CACC. She ranked third in blocks (35) and seventh in steals (53).

Hartzell was named the CACC Coach of the Year after leading USciences to a 25-3 overall record and 18-1 mark in league play during the regular season. USciences not only captured the CACC South Division Championship and the No. 1 overall seed for this week's CACC Championship Tournament, but also a No. 3 ranking in the NCAA Division II East Region Rankings.

Goldey-Beacom College won the league's CACC Team Sportsmanship Award for women's basketball by demonstrating outstanding character and sportsmanship throughout the 2019-20 campaign.
