Jefferson's Jessica Kaminski Named 2018-19 CACC Women's Basketball Player & Defensive Player of the Year; All-League Teams Announced

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 4, 2019) -- Jefferson standout Jessica Kaminski on Tuesday was named the 2018-19 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Kaminski highlighted a list of other award winners on Tuesday, as the voting for the various CACC Women's Basketball Awards was conducted by the league's 14 head coaches in the sport.

Joining Kaminski as major award winners were Post University's Sha'Raya Haines (CACC Rookie of the Year) and University of the Sciences' Jackie Hartzell (CACC Rookie of the Year).

Kaminski, who was also named to the All-CACC First Team, had a terrific regular season in helping to lead the Rams to a 26-2 overall record and a 17-2 mark in league play. The Rams also find themselves in both Division II National Top-25 Polls. She averaged 17.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game during the regular season. Kaminski leads the league in rebounding, while ranking second in scoring. Her 476 total points ranks as the top mark in the CACC. Kaminski also ranks among the top 10 in the CACC in numerous other categories including field goals made (4th, 158), field goal percentage (2nd, 53.9%), free throws made (1st, 160), assists (6th, 107) and assist-to-turnover ratio (7th, 1.8).

Haines had a terrific debut season at the collegiate level, as she averages 13.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. She posted double-figures in scoring in 17 games, including a season-best 30 points in a win at Chestnut Hill College on Feb. 2. Haines played a major role in helping the Eagles post a 10-9 CACC record and earning the No. 3 seed from the North Division entering Tuesday's CACC quarterfinals.

Hartzell was named the CACC Coach of the Year once again for doing a wonderful job leading the Devils to a spectacular regular season, as USciences is currently ranked fourth in the nation in the latest D2 Top-25 Poll. The Devils posted a 27-1 record during the regular season, including an 18-1 clip in league play to win the CACC South Division Regular Season Championship. USciences is currently ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division II East Region rankings, with its only setback coming at nationally-ranked Jefferson back on Jan. 3.

The other major award handed out on Tuesday was Nyack College earning the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award for demonstrating outstanding character and sportsmanship throughout the season.

The award winners will be recognized during the CACC Basketball Championship Banquet on Friday in New Jersey on the eve of the 2018-19 CACC Women's Basketball Championship Semifinals, which will be held on the Caldwell University campus.
