NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 26, 2019) -- University of the Sciences Women's Basketball Head Coach Jackie Hartzell has been named the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II East Region Coach of the Year, while also being named a finalist for the Division II National Coach-of-the-Year Award. The announcement was made earlier this week by the WBCA.

Hartzell did a tremendous job in leading the Devils during the 2018-19 campaign. She guided USciences to a 30-3 overall record, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division Regular Season Championship, a berth in the CACC Championship Final, the No. 1 ranking in the NCAA Division II East Region and the right to host the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament earlier this month in Philadelphia, Pa.

USciences advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA East Region Tournament, marking the third-consecutive season the Devils won a game in the NCAA Tournament. Under Hartzell, USciences won the 2017 CACC title and reached the second round of the NCAAs; won the 2018 conference crown and reached the Sweet Sixteen; and made it to the second round of the NCAAs this season.

Hartzell won two coach-of-the-year accolades this season, as she also claimed the CACC's honor back in early March at the league's tournament banquet.
