Former Georgian Court Women's Basketball Star Carol Walters Inducted into CACC Hall of Fame

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (January 30, 2016) -- Former Georgian Court University women's basketball star Carol Walters was officially inducted into the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Hall of Fame on Saturday in a moving ceremony held during the GCU-Post University game at the Wellness Center in Lakewood, N.J.

Walters became the second member of the conference's inaugural class to be inducted into the hall of fame, joining former University of the Sciences coaching legend Bobby Morgan, who was inducted back in December.

During Saturday's ceremony, several people spoke on Carol's behalf, and relayed stories of her unassuming nature and thrilling play on the hardwood. CACC Commissioner Dan Mara, who presented Ms. Walters with a framed portrait displaying some of the memorable moments from her career, spoke about her amazing accomplishments while as a student-athlete in Lakewood.

When it was Walters' turn to speak, she spoke of her fondness for the school and how it helped to shape her as a person. She also teared up when thanking her parents and brothers for all the support they showed throughout her historic career.

Walters had a legendary career for the Lions women’s hoops program and still ranks as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,885 points. The mark has stood for 24 years since her graduation in 1991.

She was twice named the CACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors three times.

Walters’ accolades weren’t limited to the CACC, as she also made her mark at the regional and national levels. She was named the most valuable player of the NAIA District 31 three times and was also a three-time first-team all-district honoree. Walters was also named an NAIA Third-Team All-American twice.

Walters and Morgan will officially be joined in the hall by two more members next week when the late Norm Wilhelmi will be inducted on Friday night in New York, as his family and members of The King's College of New York will accept on his behalf. A day later on Saturday, Dominican College star, Maryellen Massey Montera, will be inducted during the Dominican-Philadelphia University women's basketball game.

The official announcement of the six-person inaugural class was made on Sept. 1, 2015. The other two members of the class who will be honored later in the spring are the late Alfred R. Restaino Sr. of Bloomfield College and Michael Tobiason of Goldey-Beacom College.
