Caldwell College’s Chelsea Loscalzo, CACC Student-Athlete of the Month - January 2013

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (February 18, 2013) – Caldwell College's Chelsea Loscalzo (Bayside, NY) has been named as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of January 2013, the Conference announced Monday.

The 5-8 senior captain has seen action in 10 of the Cougar's games this season in a reserve role. Loscalzo scored a career-high, eight points against Nyack on January 23 and contributed to her team's 6-0 record in January. A team leader, and just the second two-time team captain chosen by Caldwell head coach Linda Cimino in her seven-year tenure, Loscalzo has provided positive leadership for her team on the court, in the classroom and in the community.

"Chelsea is the epitome of what a Division II athlete should be in that she performs at a high level academically in combination with her commitment to her team," said coach Cimino. "She's the first person to volunteer for our community engagement events and sets the standard for our team; and it rubs off on her teammates."

Academically, Losocalzo carried a 3.88 grade point average in marketing in her most recent term. She has been named to the CACC Winter All-Academic Team in 2010 and 2011. In 2010 Losocalzo also received the Academic Achievement Award from the Division II Athletics Director's Association and so far has been named to the Dean's List in every semester at Caldwell.

Loscalzo has also provided leadership and has been very active in the community at Caldwell. Recently, she served as a student-athlete representative and spoke to the Caldwell College Board of Trustees about what it is like to be a student-athlete at Caldwell College. She also serves as the vice president of innovation for Caldwell's Marketing Club and was recently awarded the position of graduate in residence director in Residence Life. Additionally, Chelsea tutors high school students in various subjects and has begun working towards her MBA in marketing.

The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month is awarded from September through May to select student-athletes who excel in athletics, the classroom and the community.
