Caldwell's Jones, Philadelphia's Arnao Earn CACC Weekly Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 17, 2012) – Caldwell College's Torey Jones (Providence R.I.) has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's (CACC) Player of the Week for the week ending December 16, 2012.  Philadelphia University's Tori Arnao (Newton, Pa.) was selected as the CACC Rookie of the Week.  Due to winter break, the next CACC weekly awards and report will be posted on January 2, 2013.

CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Torey Jones, (Sr., G, Providence, R.I.) Caldwell Major: Psychology
Jones averaged 24 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in the Cougars' two games last week.  The 5-8 senior psychology major scored 30 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 5-of-8 shooting from behind the arc in a 69-63 victory over Queens Wednesday.  Torey also compiled five rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win.  On Saturday Jones went 4-of 6 from behind the arc en route to a game-high 18 points, seven boards, five assists and two steals to secure a 78-47 triumph over Felician.  Her four three-pointers on Saturday gave Torey 204 three-point baskets for her career which is a new school record.  Jones surpassed former all-CACC guard Kirsty Leedham's mark of 202, set from 2007-11.

CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Tori Arnao (Fr., F, Newton, Pa.)  Philadelphia U. Major: Health Sciences
Ram's forward Tori Arnao helped her team to a 1-1 record last week, averaging 13.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game.  The health sciences major started both games for Philadelphia University, scoring 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and pulled in 13 rebounds (eight offensive) in a 66-59 loss at Georgian Court Thursday.  On Saturday Arnao played 39 minutes in a 56-53 home victory over East Stroudsburg that moved the Rams to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the CACC.  In the victory, the Newton native score 12 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while adding one assist and one block in her second double-double of the week.

CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HONORABLE MENTION
Erin Mann (Sr., C, West Chester, Pa.)  Holy Family Major: Sports Marketing-Management
Mann averaged 15 points for the Tigers in a pair of victories last week.  The senior center scored 12 points and pulled in nine rebounds in 13 minutes in an 80-29 victory over Mercy last Wednesday.  On Saturday Erin compiled 18 points, six rebounds, three steals and three blocks in a 68-44 victory at Shepherd (W. Va.).

Devonne Richardson (Sr., G, Baltimore, Md.) Goldey-Beacom Major: Psychology
CACC Player of the week last week, Richardson turned in another strong performance last week.  The senior from Baltimore helped Lightning to 1-1 record last week that included an 84-53 victory over Wilmington as well as a 60-52 loss at Malloy.  Devonne scored a season-high 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor and 7-of-8 from the line in the win over the Wildcats while hauling in 13 rebounds in the victory.   Richardson closed out the week with a ten point, eight rebound and three assist performance in a loss at Malloy.

Shauneia McPhearson (Sr., G, Chicago, Ill.)  Georgian Court  Major: Undeclared
McPhearson scored game-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds in GCU's 66-59 upset of Philadelphia University last Thursday.  The senior guard turned around two days later and drained a season-high 23 points in a 64-57 loss at Lincoln University.  The senior from Chicago also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists and two steals.

CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM NOTES
BLOOMFIELD -  Junior forward Iliriana Lulgjuraj (Bloomfield, N.J.) led Bloomfield with 11 points in the club's only contest of the season, a setback against the College of Saint Rose.  Rookie forward Iman Williams had eight points and seven rebounds off the bench in the loss.

CALDWELL  - The Cougars won both of their games last week and reached a couple milestones in each victory.  Against Queens on Wednesday, junior forward Jeanette Anderson scored her 1,000th career-point, becoming the 15th player to achieve the milestone in the history of the program.  She finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds in the 69-63 win.  Senior guard Torey Jones struck for 30 points and hit five threes versus Queens, giving her 200 treys for her career.  She then broke the school record for career three-pointers in a 78-47 win over Felician on Saturday with four more threes.  Jones surpassed former all-CACC guard Kirsty Leedham's mark of 202, set from 2007-11. Sophomore guard Jessica Coscia has recorded seven assists in each of Caldwell's four wins this season.  The Cougars host Bloomfield College on Wednesday in a key CACC North match-up.

CHESTNUT HILL – A late first-half run allowed the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) to establish an eight point halftime advantage.  NYIT took advantage of Chestnut Hill miscues and expanded their lead in the second half before settling on a 75-48 victory over the Griffins.  Senior guard Latoya Laing (Snellville, Ga.) led Chestnut Hill in the loss with 15 points.

CONCORDIA –  Concordia fell in their only game of the week, 72-49 at Adelphi in non-conference action. Senior's Krystina Agard (Queens, N.Y.) and Sade Jones (Patterson, N.J.) both led the Clippers with 12 points apiece.  Jones led Concordia with seven rebounds while Agard added six rebounds.  The Panthers shot 43.1% (28-of-65) from the field while Concordia shot 25.4% (15-of-59).  With the loss the Clippers are now 3-30 against Adelphi all-time.  Concordia will return to action Sunday, December 30th for a 3pm game at the Manuel Rivero Gymnasium at Lincoln University, Pa.

DOMINICAN – The women's basketball team improved to 6-4 overall with a victory over Saint Michale's College, 60-53 on December 16.  KC Jentzen led two Lady Chargers in double figures with 16 points and recorded the games only double-double with 10 rebounds.  Lindsey Lopez netted 14 points, went a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe and had a game-high five assists.  Freshman Deja Gabbidon came off the bench to net nine points and eight caroms.

GOLDEY-BEACOM - After splitting a pair of games last week, the Lightning will bring a 7-6 overall record and a 4-1 CACC mark into their lone contest of the week, a Wednesday afternoon matinee against Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia.  The Lightning won by an 84-53 margin Monday night at Wilmington before dropping a 60-52 verdict at Molloy Wednesday, snapping Goldey-Beacom's four-game win streak.  Senior guard Devonne Richardson led the Lightning last week, averaging 16 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.  She scored a season-high 22 points in the win over Wilmington on Monday with 13 rebounds before a ten-point, eight-rebound performance at Molloy on Wednesday evening. The only player to start every game for the Lightning this season, Richardson is the team's leading scorer with a 13.4 average while pulling down a team-high 10.2 rebounds per contest.

GEORGIAN COURT - Georgian Court's 66-59 upset of Philadelphia University last Thursday was the Lions' first-ever home victory vs. the Lady Rams and second victory overall (2-15) vs. the Conference foe.  GCU last defeated Philly on December 18, 2008.  Senior Shauneia McPhearson led the way for the Lions, cashing in a game-high 19 points in the victory.  She also dropped in a season-high 23 in Saturday's 64-57 non-conference loss at Lincoln University, placing her 4th in the CACC with 16.7 points per game average.  Senior Christina White (New Brunswick, NJ) earned her third double-double (eleven rebounds, ten points) of the year last week against the Rams  and junior Brittany Baker (Waldorf, MD) secured her first double-double with 13 boards and ten points in the win.

HOLY FAMILY - Holy Family, ranked 10th in the recent USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll, extended their winning streak to ten games with a pair of non-conference victories this past week. The Tigers began the week with an 80-29 win versus Mercy College on Wednesday then capped the week with a 68-44 victory at Shepherd University (W Va.). Holy Family is currently 10-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

PHILADELPHIA – The Rams (6-4, 3-2 CACC) went 1-1 in the last week.  After falling to CACC foe Georgian Court 66-59, Philadelphia squeaked out a 56-53 overtime victory over East Stroudsburg.  Freshman forward Tori Arnao, who is fifth in the nation in rebounding, posted her fourth and fifth double-doubles of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds against the Lions and 12 points and 14 rebounds in the win over the Warriors. Junior guard Samantha Morris knocked down a career-high five three-pointers to account for her 15 points against East Stroudsburg.  Philadelphia closes out 2012 with a non-conference home contest against Bloomsburg on Dec. 30 at 1 pm.

POST - Post had its four-game winning streak snapped at the hands of Northeast 10 foe, Southern New Hampshire on Saturday at the Drubner Center.  The final score was 66-57. It was the team's first loss since November 21.   Junior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) scored a team-high 15 points to go along with five rebounds and four steals.  Graduate student Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high 13 boards.  Junior Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) added 11 points and six rebounds.  The Eagles wore blue socks for the game to honor the victims of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary on Friday.
