Holy Family Clips Eagles? Wings

On Wednesday evening, #1 Holy Family pounced on #8 Post University 84-52, in the opening round of the CACC playoffs.

The Lady Tigers roared out of the gate, amassing a 20-3 lead in the early stages of the contest. Post cut the lead down to 12 but that’s as close as they would get as the Lady Tigers entered the break with a 44-28 lead. Holy Family shot 53% from the floor in the first half, including 67% from beyond the arc to create the gap. Post, on the other hand struggled, converting only 35% of their shots.

In the second half, Holy Family increased its lead to as much as 34 and stiffened up defensively, holding Post to 21% shooting. For the game, the Lady Tigers’ relentless defense caused 22 turnovers.

A day after being named the CACC Player-of-the-Year, senior guard Jamie Battinieri had a great performance, posting a game-high 23 points and dishing out 8 assists. Sophomore center Megan Bauer was unstoppable in the paint, pumping in 19 points and grabbing a team-high 9 rebounds. Freshman guard Kelly Killion, who always looks to get her teammates involved, handed out 11 assists to go along with 7 points. Senior forward Ashley Dunek had 10 points, 6 rebounds, and served 2 rejection notices.

Leading the way for Post was All- CACC member Tadj Williams, who recorded a double-double, 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kendra Hill had 11 points and pulled down 6 rebounds to help the Eagles. Courtney McGinniss also garnered 8 rebounds for Post.

Holy Family returns to action on Friday when they battle NJIT in the semi-finals of the CACC playoffs. The game will be played at Caldwell College, with tip off slated for 2:30 pm.
