CACC Announces Major Award Winners for the 2019 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 21, 2019) -- Four standouts on Tuesday were named major award winners for the 2019 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field season, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The collection of student-athletes to earn awards included Jefferson's Kalista Safer (2019 CACC Track Athlete of the Year), Holy Family University's Nyoki Jones (2019 CACC Track Rookie of the Year), Georgian Court University's Stephanie Bock (2019 CACC Field Athlete of the Year) and University of the Sciences' McKayla Kelly (2019 CACC Field Rookie of the Year). The nominating and voting for the various awards was conducted by league's head coaches in the sport.

In addition to the quartet of awards handed out, GCU's Mike Murawski was named the 2019 CACC Coach of the Year, while University of the Sciences collected the 2019 CACC Team Sportsmanship Award.

Safer posted a pair of victories at the CACC Championship, as she won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:21.25) and the 5,000 meters (19:36.11). Her time in the steeplechase at the CACCs set a new meet record. Safer won the 5,000 meters, as she was competing in the event for the first time.

Jones had a terrific debut at the CACC Championship meet, as she won the 400 meters and 400-meter hurdles. She also claimed titles in both events earlier in the year at the Mason-Dixon Invitational.

Bock completed the hat-trick at the CACC Championship, as she finished first in the shot put, discus and hammer throw. Bock also turned in a sixth-place showing in the javelin. She earned 33 team points for the Lions, as GCU won the sixth-straight CACC title in program history.

Kelly made the most of her first appearance in the CACC Championship, as she earned a pair of top-four finishes. Kelly earned runner-up honors in the shot put, while placing fourth in the javelin. She won the shot put event earlier in the year at the Greyhound Invitational.

Murawski was named the CACC Women's Track & Field Coach of the Year after guiding the Lions to another CACC crown. Earlier in the day he was also named the CACC Men's Track & Field Coach of the Year for leading Georgian Court to the program's fourth title in the last five seasons.

USciences, under the guidance of head coach Rich DiGiacomo, won the Team Sportsmanship Award for demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship and character throughout the spring season and the CACC Championship.
