RUTHERFORD, N.J. (July 2, 2018) – Felician University has dropped the 'interim' tag from the title of women's track & field coach James Pipkins II of West New York and named him the permanent head coach of that program, Felician director of athletics Ben Dinallo Jr. announced today.

After two seasons as a multi-event assistant with Felician, Pipkins was tapped as the Golden Falcons' interim head coach in March. Under his guidance, Felician, a fourth-year program, set eight school records and finished eighth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate ConferenceChampionship meet. The Golden Falcons also qualified and sent athletes to the Penn Relays for the first time.

"The Felician department of athletics is happy to welcome James as our head track & field coach," DiNallo said. "He has done an admirable job as our assistant and our interim coach, and I am confident that he will lead our program to new heights."

Pipkins is the third coach in program history. Felician sponsors varsity intercollegiate track & field only for women and only in the outdoor (spring) season.

In October 2017, Pipkins became Felician's first department-wide strength & conditioning coach, fulfilling an NCAA Division II mandate. AN NFPT-certified personal trainer, he is the owner of Stride Performance Athletics. Pipkins was formerly the president and head coach of the REAL Track & Field Club of the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.

Pipkins attended the University of Iowa and was a starter for the football team. He earned varsity letters from the Hawkeyes in 1987 and 1988.
