Georgian Court Claims Inaugural CACC Women's Track and Field Championship

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Georgian Court University claimed the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship, while Chestnut Hill College placed first in the CACC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Meet.  The Lions recorded an impressive 260 points out distancing Caldwell College (139 points) and Philadelphia University (110).  The Griffins (159 points) won the men’s meet by 30 points followed by Philadephia U. and Holy Family University (102).  In all, seven CACC women’s teams and five men’s teams participated in the inaugural event hosted by Georgian Court.

GCU dominated the field events by winning all but one led by double winners: sophomore Octavia Booker in the long jump (5.33m) and high jump (1.53m) and junior Kaitlyn Brunner in the hammer throw (41.59m) and discus throw (36.99m).  Lion senior Amy Berry captured the javelin throw with a distance of 37.35m and junior Shelby Frink took the shot put (13.74m).  Caldwell College freshman Jessica Pierno broke the potential Georgian Court field sweep by winning the triple jump (10.10m).

Multiple winners in the track events included junior Taylor Falvey who took the 1500 meter run (5:00.53) and 5000 meter run (18:26.50) and Georgian Court junior Chanel Rogers who won both the 100 meter hurdles (15.76) and 400 meter hurdles (1:03.72).

In the men’s meet, senior Steven Perry of Post University won the 100 meter dash (11.70), freshman Holy Family Ricky Merriwether took the 200 meter dash (23.44) and his teammate freshman Olabode Ayiebo was victorious in the 400 meter dash (51.18).  In the 1500 meter run, Philadelphia U. took the top four places in the 1500 meters led by junior Eric Lacy.

In the field events, freshman Jordan Fagan of Georgian Court took the medal in the high jump (2.04m) and triple jump (11.89m) while Holy Family senior Thomas Mandese won the shot put (12.30m) and discus throw (33.00m).

The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference is an NCAA Division II Conference composed of 14 institutions in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The member institutions are Bloomfield College, Caldwell College, Chestnut Hill College, Concordia (NY) College, Dominican (N.Y.) College, Felician College, Georgian Court University, Goldey-Beacom College, Holy Family University, Nyack College, Philadelphia University, Post University, University of the Sciences and Wilmington University.
