BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE ANNOUNCES SOFTBALL RECRUITING CLASS

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - Bloomfield College Softball Coach Rocco Constantino has announced his recruiting class for the 2010-2011 season.  Angie Yoshizu (Kaneohe, HI/University Laboratory School), Kaila Dugger (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View High School), Jocelyn Cabrera (North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen High School) and Katie Aumann (Colgate, WI/Germantown High School) have joined Bloomfield College for the upcoming season.   The four incoming freshmen join Lindsey Ciresa, a pitcher/outfielder who transferred from the University of St. Louis in what Coach Constantino figures to be a high impact recruiting class.

“We’re excited about all of our recruits, they come from great backgrounds,” said Constantino.  “We had a disappointing season with injuries last year and we needed a great class in order to bounce back in what is going to be a very strong conference.  I believe we accomplished that.”

Ciresa, Dugger and Aumann all have great pitching experience and will join sophomore Ashleigh Williams in a completely revamped staff.

Ciresa enrolled at Bloomfield College last January and will begin playing with the Deacons after sitting out this fall.  The 5’11” righty played her freshmen year for St. Louis University in the Atlantic-10 Conference and figures to be a force in the circle and in the lineup for BC next season.  Before St. Louis, Ciresa was a star at Somerville (NJ) High School where she helped her team to the Skylands Conference championship in 2008.

Ciresa batted .617 with 4 homers in 2007 and posted a 0.86 ERA, striking out 112 batters in 61 innings to lead Somerville (NJ) High School.  Ciresa hurled five no-hitters over her high school career in earning All-Somerset County and All-State Group 2 honors.

Dugger joins the Deacons as a versatile pitcher and utility player after a fine career with the Arizona Storm ASA program.  She figures to be one of BC’s top pitchers next season and can play just about anywhere when not in the circle.  Dugger was a member of the 2009 18u ASA State Championship Runners-up and a member of the 2007-2008 team that was a 3-time ASA 18u Tournament Champion and went undefeated at the NFCA Las Vegas Tournament.

Aumann is also a versatile player with pitching experience who figures to help BC in many ways.  She led her Germantown High School squad to a sectional final in 2010 and received All-Conference and All-Suburban Honors as a pitcher.  Aumann’s Germantown team to finished 2010 with a final record of 19-7.  She also played in 2010 for the Competitors ASA program located in Brookfield, Wisconsin.  When not in the circle, Aumann figures to spend time in the Deacons’ outfield and can contribute as an infielder as well.

Cabrera gives the Deacons depth at catcher and will help account for the loss of Brittany DeVries, who caught many games for BC over the past three years.  Cabrera has been the starting catcher for North Bergen High School, a very strong program in North Jersey.  She has received All-Hudson County and All-League Honors.  Cabrera also played for the North Jersey Rocks ASA program this summer.

Also joining the Deacons this year will be Angie Yoshizu, a speedy shortstop from Hawaii.   Yoshizu is a top defender and possesses tremendous speed on the basepaths.  The shortstop participated in the highly regarded NFCA Camp in Las Vegas in 2008 where she recorded the fastest home to first (2.77) and home to home (11.49) times among all infielders in the 2010-2012 classes.  Yoshizu has participated in many respected gold showcases and qualifiers against some of the top ASA competition in the country.

In addition to the recruiting class, BC hopes for the return of senior Kira Wagar, the Deacons’ leading hitter in 2009. Wagar, an All-CACC Tournament performer in 2009, was injured on opening day last year and missed the entire season.  Wagar hit .370 on 50 hits with 3 home runs and 14 stolen bases in 2009 and hopes to bounce back after off season shoulder surgery.

“We have put together back to back great recruiting classes in my opinion,” said Constantino.  “A majority of our lineup figures to be freshmen and sophomores next year, and that bodes well for a great future.  I am also happy that we are bringing in excellent students.  Aumann, Dugger and Yoshizu all received nice academic scholarships and Ciresa earned a 3.9 GPA last semester.  These are the perfect student-athletes to build a program around.”
