NEW HAVEN, CT - After leading her team to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship, Georgian Court's Diana Sansevera claimed CACC Player and Pitcher of the Week accolades for the week ending Sunday, May 3. Katie Renner of Philadelphia University was selected Rookie of the Week.

Sansevera, a sophomore right-hander from Manalapan, NJ, was named MVP of the CACC Tournament after leading the Lions to the Tournament Championship. She threw a pair of one-hitters, against Holy Family and Dominican. In four complete games, she hurled three shutouts and allowed only 11 hits and one earned run (0.25 ERA) in 28.0 innings, with 20 strikeouts.

Renner, a freshman from Berryville, VA, hit .750 last week with an .800 on-base percentage. She went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in an elimination-game victory over Dominican. She drove in nine runs for the week and hit four doubles with four runs scored.

Honorable Mention

Kira Wagar, Bloomfield (Jr., Rochester, NY) - Hit .438 in five CACC Tournament games. Hit two home runs and drove in six runs while scoring four times. Also stole three bases. 

Brooke Hull, Georgian Court (Fr., DP, Nazareth, PA) - Hit .500 during the CACC Tournament with three RBI and two doubles.

CACC Notes

Bloomfield - Kira Wagar and Jackie Dean were named to the CACC All-Tournament Team. Wagar was one of only two players to hit multiple home runs in the tournament and had multi-hit games in 3 of the 5 games BC played. Dean registered her first hit as a Deacon in BC's final game against Caldwell with a double into right center field. Bloomfield ended the season 33-15 overall and 17-7 in CACC play. Both marks were the best since the school has become an NCAA Division II member. The Deacons also won three playoff games this season. Prior to this year, they had won just one playoff game since joining the CACC. BC should return seven starters from this year's squad in 2010.

Caldwell - The Cougars were selected to participate in the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament, which begins Friday, May 8. Caldwell will play at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y., and will face Dowling College in the first round. This is the fifth trip to the regional tournament in six years for the Cougars, who finished second at last weekend's CACC Tournament. It is also the first time Caldwell has received an at-large bid.

Philadelphia - The Lady Rams finished the season setting milestones under head coach John Kelly's tenure: 25 wins, making the CACC Tournament first time and going 2-2 in tournament play. Both Maggie Desmond and Ali Schmidt earned All-Tournament Team honors, and freshman Katie Renner caught fire through post-season play- hitting .750 with four RBIs. Schmidt finished the season with 19 wins and 281 strikeouts. PhilaU graduates just one senior- Lindsay White - and will look to continue their run into the 2010 season.

USP - USP second baseman Samantha Tu (Trevose, Pa.) had a career year in 2009 after undergoing ACL surgery in the off-season: Tu led USP in batting average, hits, doubles, slugging% and RBI. She set season school records for hits and doubles along with at-bats, games played and games started. She recorded her 100th career hit in the last game of the season, had a 13 game hitting streak to start season and a 9 game streak to end it. She hit safely in 35 of 42 games played. Tu was ranked 7th in the CACC in batting avg., doubles and hits( in stats release of 4/28). She also .batted .400 with runners in scoring position and had 8 RBI in 15 chances with runners on 3rd and less than 2 out. She was the first USP player to get 50 hits in a season, finishing the year with 57. Sophomore Dayna Phillips (Rosenhayn, N.J.) earned second team All-CACC honors for the second year in a row.
