THREE CACC TEAMS SET TO COMPETE AT NCAA SOFTBALL REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

NEW HAVEN, CT (May 5, 2009) - The NCAA Division II Softball Committee released the 64 team field for the 2009 NCAA Division II Softball Regional Championships late Sunday evening. Four teams will participate at each of the 16 regional sites in double elimination tournaments that will be held May 8-10.

The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) received three bids for the tournament. Earning the number three seed in the East Region was the 2009 CACC Softball Tournament Champion, Georgian Court University (36-14). Caldwell College (35-16-2) was seeded fourth and the regular season champion, Dominican College (39-14), landed the eighth spot. The three squads will compete at two sub-regional sites, with Caldwell and Dominican heading to number one seed LeMoyne College (40-10) in Syracuse, NY, while Georgian Court will play its games at C.W. Post in Long Island, NY.

Georgian Court, which is making its third straight regional appearance, will face Southern Connecticut State (33-14) in its first game on Friday at 3:30 pm at C.W. Post. Caldwell will play Dowling (33-18) at 3:00 pm Friday at Le Moyne, while Dominican will meet top seeded Dolphins (40-10) at 1:00 pm. The Cougars are making their fifth regional appearance in the last six seasons. The Chargers qualified for the regional for the first time since joining the NCAA.

The winners at each site will meet in a best-of-three series beginning May 15 to determine the East Region champion. All eight region champions advance to the NCAA Division II Women's College World Series, held at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va., May 21-25.
