GEORGIAN COURT SOFTBALL ADVANCES TO SUPER REGIONAL AGAINST LE MOYNE

NEW HAVEN, CT (May 10, 2009) - The Georgian Court University softball team defeated The University of New Haven, 5-3, Sunday afternoon in the NCAA Division II Softball East-2 Regional Championship round. The Lions will move on to face Le Moyne College in next weekend's Super Regional, with the winner advancing to the 2009 Division II Women's College World Series. Caldwell College had a chance to face Georgian Court in the Super Regional, but fell to Le Moyne this afternoon, 7-1.

The Lions will face the Dolphins at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 15 and then again at 11:00 am on Saturday. An "if-necessary" game will be played Saturday at 1:30 pm in the best-of-three- game series.

Georgian Court wasted no time scoring at the C.W. Post Softball Complex, as freshman Brooke Hull blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning after classmate Rachel Ruch led off the inning with a double. Courtney Cuevas made the lead 3-0 in the third inning when she singled home junior Marissa Van Cleef.

The lead grew to 5-0 in the fourth frame when freshman Sammie Jo Garafalo crushed a homer over the left field fence after junior Daneille Brossoie reached base with a single. That was more than enough for GCU starter Diana Sansevera, who earned her third victory in as many games at the regional, going the distance and allowing nine hits and three runs while fanning five. The Lions are now 39-15 this season.

Le Moyne broke the game open against Caldwell with four runs on six hits and two Caldwell errors in the bottom of the third inning. The Cougars scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by junior Danielle Genovese that made the score 4-1. It was her third home run of the season. But a solo homer from Jennifer Farrelly in the fifth and a two-run single by Leah Ford put the game out of reach for Caldwell, which lost to the Dolphins, 2-1 on Saturday.

Caldwell ends the season with a record of 37-18-2.
