NEW HAVEN, CT (May 14, 2009) - Georgian Court University sophomore pitcher Diana Sansevera has garnered 2009 Daktronics Softball East Region Pitcher of the Year, as the All-Region team was released Wednesday. Twelve student-athletes from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) institutions earned a spot on the team this year, including five first team picks. Sports Information Directors across the region conducted the voting for the team.

In addition to Sansevera, first team selections from the CACC include Dominican sophomore catcher Nicole Scarillo and senior outfielder Sarah Beck, GCU sophomore 3B Courtney Cuevas and senior outfielder Mallory Kirchner. Second team honorees include three players from Caldwell College in sophomore 1B Kyrie Timbrook, senior 2B Gina Capardi and junior shortstop Danielle Genovese. Also earning second team honors are GCU freshman 2B Rachel Ruch, Wilmington junior 3B Lindsay Watson and sophomore DP Amanda Cordrey and Holy Family junior utility player Angela DiBeneditto.

Sansevera, who hails from Manalapan, NJ, was named the CACC Pitcher of the Year and was also the CACC Tournament MVP after leading the Lions to the championship and an automatic bid into the NCAA Regional Tournament. Entering the week, Sansevera has posted a 26-8 overall record with 330 strikeouts, a .191 opponent batting average and a 1.54 ERA in 241.1 innings pitched. She also owns a record of 7-0 with seven complete games this postseason. She led CACC this season in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts and was second in opponent batting average and earned-run average.

The 12 CACC selections to the 2009 team are four more than last year, when eight conference student-athletes earned All-Region accolades. Nine players earned a spot on the team in 2007.
