PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Concordia College won the 2010 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Tennis Championship Thursday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over Philadelphia University at the Chestnut Hill College tennis courts. The Clippers, who are in their first season as a member of the CACC, improve to 22-3 overall this season.

The top-seeded Clippers started the match by taking all three doubles matches, but the No. 2 seed Rams put up a good fight. The most competitive match came at the No. 1 spot, between Concordia’s Alex Grubin and Andrey Boldarev and Philadelphia’s Adrian Torroella-Cruz and Manoli Sgouros. The Clipper duo, which is ranked as the second-best doubles team in Division II, pulled out an 8-5 win.  Torroella-Cruz and Sgouros won the CACC Doubles Championship last season. Concordia also won at No. 2 doubles, 8-4, and at No. 3 by an 8-2 count.

The singles matches followed and Concordia needed just two wins to get the five points it needed to claim the title. The wins came at No. 5 and 6 singles, as Tamas Dobrotka and Andreas Lindell cruised to victories. Dobrotka won, 6-0, 6-0, while Lindell earned a 6-2, 6-1 triumph.  

Concordia and Philadelphia (19-6) are both highly ranked in the East Region, with the Clippers sitting first and the Rams in the fourth spot. Both teams will await the announcement of the seeds for the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament, which will be played on May 6, 7, and 8 at sites to be determined.
