Bridgeport Collects Numerous Major Awards in 2022 CACC MSOC Season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (November 1, 2022) -- University of Bridgeport men's soccer had a terrific debut season in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) in 2022, and on Tuesday the Purple Knights racked up a trio of major league awards in the sport. The highlight was Lucas Sousa being named the CACC Player of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The voting for the all-conference and major awards was conducted by the 13 head coaches in the league.

In addition to Sousa, UB's Maximilian Kissel was named the CACC Rookie of the Year, while netminder Clement Anet was named the CACC Goalkeeper of the Year. Post University's Antoine Trifonov was crowned the CACC Defensive Player of the Year, and Holy Family University's Georg Montag was tabbed as the CACC Coach of the Year. The other major honor handed out on Monday was Goldey-Beacom College being named the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award winner for demonstrating outstanding character during the 2022 campaign.

Sousa logged seven goals and eight assists for 22 points during the regular season. He ranked fourth in both assists and points, while ranking fifth in goals scored. He was also named to the All-CACC First Team at the midfield position.

Kissel leads the CACC in goals (12) and points (24), and was placed on the all-league first team at the forward spot.

Trifonov was named the league's top defensive player as he has helped guide the Eagles to 11 shutout wins during the regular season. He, too, earned a spot on the All-CACC First Team.

Anet has gone 10-5-3 in net during the season, including posting four shutouts. His 10 victories are tops in the league and he has a 1.12 goals against average. Anet was also placed on the all-conference first team.

Montag has done a wonderful job leading the Tigers, as HFU finished second in the CACC standings and the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament. Holy Family is 11-6-1 overall and 9-2-1 in league play.
