Post's Sergio Diaz Named 2019 New England Soccer Journal's Player of the Year

WATERBURY, Conn. (December 20, 2019) -- Junior standout Sergio Diaz was named New England Soccer Journal's Division II Men's Soccer Player of the Year on Friday after leading the Post University men's soccer team to a second consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) title and a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

With the honor, Diaz adds to the accolades he's already received this season. He was named to the All-CACC first team for the second consecutive season. He was named to the D2CCA All-American and All-East Region first teams. Diaz was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-American third team.

Diaz led the NCAA and CACC in assists with 18 assists to go with his 17 goals. He was second in the CACC and the NCAA with 52 points.

Diaz had four games this season where he scored two or more goals, including a hat trick against Concordia on October 8 in a 4-1 win. There were four games this season where he had two or more assists, including all three in a 3-0 win over Le Moyne, who was ranked fourth in the region at the time. He also scored the lone goal in the upset win over No. 1 Adelphi in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
