GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (November 24, 2019) – Behind a goal from sophomore Phillimon Bedard-Khalid and a chaotic last minute defensive stand, the Post University men's soccer team made history…again, as it knocked off top-seeded Adelphi, 1-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, sending the Eagles to their first ever Sweet 16.

After a scoreless and evenly played first half, the Eagles struck in the 59th minute as junior Sergio Diaz stole a clearing pass from goalkeeper Matt Apicella, passed it to Bedard-Khalid who easily put it in the empty net to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead.

Sophomore David Mollenthiel was stellar in net, stopping ten shots, including a stop in the 34th minute off of the foot of Taylor Kaczynski on a one-on-one. Aidan Keenan tried to follow up with a shot, but senior Eden Gendler was able to clear the shot.

However, no save was bigger than the one he made in the 87th minute, making a sprawling one handed save off of a header from Joseph Thomann to preserve the lead. On the ensuing corner kick, Adelphi again put a shot on net, but Gendler was there, again, to clear the ball off of the back line.

"Today's win and advancing into the Sweat 16 puts our program at another level," head coach Ted Haley said. "I can't express how proud I am of our resilience, quality football, and belief. The guys are amazing and I am a lucky man and coach to be around them. We are more unified than ever and we can't wait for our next adventure together. We will train and prepare like crazy and continue to represent Post University the right way with passion, pride, and hopefully quality football!"

The Eagles will go on to face No. 4 Franklin Pierce on either December 5th or 6 at either the campus of the University of Charleston or Gannon. The Ravens defeated Wilmington, 1-0 on Saturday.
