Wilmington's Lorne Bickley Named 2019 CACC Men's Soccer Player of the Year as All-CACC Teams Announced

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (November 11, 2019) -- Wilmington University standout Lorne Bickley on Monday was named the 2019 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Player of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Bickley's major award highlights the list of other major award winners and all-conference honorees announced on Monday. Voting for the awards was done by the league's 13 head coaches in the sport.

In addition to Bickely, Caldwell University's Andre Vieira was named the CACC Rookie of the Year, WilmU's Joe Bell was tabbed CACC Defensive Player of the Year, and teammate Gabriel Prgomet was selected as the CACC Goalkeeper of the Year. Wilmington's Nick Papanicolas was named the CACC Coach of the Year, while Chestnut Hill College was chosen as the CACC Men's Soccer Team Sportsmanship Award.

Bickley, who leads the CACC and NCAA Division II in goals with 24 goals. His goal total is 10 more than the next highest goal scorer in the league. Bickley scored at least one goal in 13 matches, including seven of those with multiple goals. He ran off a string of nine goals in three-consecutive matches from Sept. 21-28, including four markers against Felician University (Sept. 28), three tallies at Georgian Court University (Sept. 24) and a pair versus Dominican College (Sept. 28). In addition to being named the CACC Player of the Year, Bickley was also named to the All-CACC First Team as a forward.

Vieira was named the league's top rookie after ranking 10th in the league with seven goals. He also tallied an assist for 15 points in his collegiate debut season. Vieira had one game-winning goal on the season.

Bell was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Year after anchoring a backline that yielded just 14 goals this season. He, too, was named to the All-CACC First Team as a defender. Bell also got in on the offensive act this season with seven goals and a pair of assists for 16 points.

Prgomet was named the top goalie after posting a 16-1-1 record with eight shutouts, a .77 goals against average and a .754 save percentage.

Papanicolas was named the coach of the year after guiding WilmU to the CACC Regular Season Championship, and national/regional rankings throughout the entire 2019 regular season. Wilmington enters the postseason with high expectations.
