58 Student-Athletes Named to 2017 CACC MSOC All-Academic Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (November 21, 2017) -- Fifty-eight (58) student-athletes on Tuesday were named to the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer All-Academic Team, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The honorees came from the 13 CACC-member schools that sponsor the sport at the varsity level.

Goldey-Beacom College, which claimed the 2017 CACC Men's Soccer Championship earlier this month, led the way with 10 honorees on the list, followed by Caldwell University with eight and Chestnut Hill College and Georgian Court University with seven apiece. Leading the way for Goldey-Beacom was Suhail Bismilla, who owns a 3.97 cumulative grade point average in his major of business. It was a rewarding month for Bismilla, as in addition to being named to the CACC All-Academic Team, he was named the 2017 CACC Goalkeeper of the Year (first time the CACC handed out that honor), earned a spot on the All-CACC First Team and received the CACC Top XVI Award for having the highest GPA at the finals site. Eight of G-B's honorees have been named to the all-academic squad multiple times during their respective careers.

Twenty-six (26) standouts were named to the All-Academic Team for at least the second time in their distinguished careers. Nyack College's Finn Reese was the lone student-athlete on the team to earn a perfect 4.0 GPA, as the senior business administration major helped lead the Warriors to the CACC tournament, which also garnering first-team all-league honors this season.

Six other student-athletes joined Bismilla as having earned GPAs of 3.90-3.99 and included Fritz Meister (Caldwell, 3.96), Levi Maruca (G-B, 3.93), Mark Pohl (Holy Family University, 3.97), Samuel Urban (Post University, 3.90), Daniel Loyo (Wilmington University, 3.96) and Dimitrios Topouzlis (WilmU, 3.96).

To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a student-athletes must meet the following criteria: a) minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the end of the immediate preceding term; b) minimum of two semesters enrolled as full-time student at member institution; c) student-athlete must be second year student-athlete at member institution; and d) student-athlete must have been athletically eligible the season preceding the award and used a season of eligibility.
