Philadelphia U. Claims First CACC Men's Soccer Title with 1-0 Win Over No. 5 Post

NEWARK, Del. – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team won its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) title after defeating No. 5 Post in the championship game of the CACC Tournament Saturday morning at the Wilmington University Athletics Complex.

Philadelphia—who joined the CACC in 2008—is now 12-7-2 overall. It is the second time that the Rams have won 12 matches under fourth-year head coach Ptah Myers.

The Rams will now wait and see if they will make their first NCAA Tournament since 1989 when the tournament field is announced on Monday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. onwww.ncaa.com/championships.

Sophomore forward Jordan Lynch (Brampton, Ontario/St. Marguerite D'Youville) scored the championship winning-goal at 30:03. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Schroy (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) played a through ball ahead to Lynch, who beat Post keeper Andre Lindsay from 25 yards out for his fourth goal of the year.

Philadelphia's junior keeper Neil Kwiatkowski (Schenectady, N.Y./Duanesburg) was kept on his toes in the second half, having to make five stops.

The Eagles (15-2-2), ranked first in the NCAA East Region Rankings, were given a late sign of life when junior midfielder Victor Chagonda (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) was given a red card with 3:04 to go for a slide tackle. Philadelphia's backline held Post to just one shot after the red card, an attempt by Kevin Ipina that sailed over the crossbar.

Kwiatkowski finished the game with six saves. Lindsay made four stops for the Eagles.

Post outshot Philadelphia, 11-9.
