NYACK CAPTURES CACC MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Nov. 5, 2011) – For the second time in the last three years, the Nyack College men's soccer team has captured the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Championship after a 1-0 overtime victory over Post University Saturday afternoon.  Nyack, the No. 7 seed, took out top seeded Post, after also winning the 2009 tournament as the seventh seed.

After two scoreless halves, an unlikely hero emerged in the first overtime period, as junior Josh Hacking scored his first goal of the season. The play started with a corner kick from Martin Narvaez, which got deflected in front of the goal, and eventually bounced to Hacking, who fired the game-winner to the back of the net from about 10 yards out.

Post and Nyack played to a scoreless double overtime draw in the regular-season meeting on Sept. 20, and neither team could find the back of the net in regulation this time. Both teams had chances to score, but Post's Errol Reid and Nyack's Adrian Ibanez came up with numerous spectacular saves.

One of the most important saves of the day was made by a Post defender early in the contest.  Reid found himself out of position in front of the net and Nyack's Marco Likos fired a shot toward the goal just 1:51 into the action, however, Post defender Ani Lekaj made the save with his body before the ball could cross into the net.

Post had a chance to score early in the overtime period when junior forward Francis Eno broke away from the defense and slipped a shot past Ibanez, only to see the ball roll just past the left post and out of bounds.  Ibanez made four saves in the contest, and Reid made five for the Eagles. Nyack out-shot Post, 18-14.

Felix Horn was named the MVP of the Tournament after recording two goals and two assists in the tournament. The results of the tournament and All-Tournament team are listed below.

Both Nyack (13-5-2) and Post (11-4-4) will now wait to see if they get a berth into the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament. The field will be announced Monday.
