Top Seed Outlasts Host Felician, 2-1, Completes Sweep With Women

RUTHERFORD, N.J. No. 1 seed Dominican (N.Y.) College defeated tournament host Felician College, 2-1, in overtime in the championship game of the 2004 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer tournament on Saturday afternoon at Tryon Field.

The game-winning play for Dominican (13-6-1) began at midfield when freshman Ryan Clancy stripped a Felician defender of the ball. Clancy sent a long pass to his older brother, junior Kyle Clancy, who chipped the ball over Felician goalkeeper Anthony Quarino five minutes, 48 seconds into the first overtime period.

The game was a physical affair much like the regular-season meeting between the teams. Eight cards were issued, and Dominican played the last nine minutes of regulation and the overtime with 10 players after a player received his second yellow card and was sent off. Dominican struck first when Ryan Clancy, who was named tournament Most Valuable Player, scored on a rebound 7:09 into the match. Felician answered with 3:14 remaining in the half as Dario Fiorino scored on a free kick.

In the closing minutes, Quarino preserved the tie by intercepting a headed cross before a Dominican attacker could finish. Quarino ended up with eight saves on the afternoon.

Dominican won its second conference championship in the last three years. The women's team from Dominican also won the league title earlier on Saturday. The all-tournament team and results of the tournament are listed below.
