Dominican's Kyle Souza Named Second-Team Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-American

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. (June 20, 2019) Dominican College men's lacrosse player, Kyle Souza, has been named to the 2018-2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Men's At-Large Second Team as was announced today.

This is Souza's second straight Google Cloud Academic All-America® honors.

Souza, a senior defender from Stratford, Conn., finished his career with a cumulative GPA of 3.98 in his major of Criminal Justice.  He will be attending Quinnipiac University School of Law on a full scholarship in the fall.  A two-year captain, Souza has been a vocal and emotional leader for the Chargers and the heart of the defense for the past four seasons.  

He is a two-time All-CACC selection (Second Team in 2019 and First Team in 2018) and was the recipient of the CACC Top XVI Award during the CACC Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.  The Top XVI Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the CACC championships.

Souza's career stats include 55 games, 71 ground balls and 42 caused turnovers.  He finishes his career sixth all-time in program history in caused turnovers.

Other Dominican College academic honors this year include the Mother Geraldine Forkel Award for Academic Excellence, the Leigh Holt Baccalaureate Honors Award, the Sr. Margaret Mary Gleeson Award for Academic Excellence in Social Sciences, the Outstanding Senior Award and Undergraduate Program Honors in Criminal Justice.

Souza is the only student-athlete from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) to be named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Men's At-Large Teams.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
 
The at-large program for the Google Cloud Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.

Fifteen men and seven women are repeat performers on this year's at-large teams. Thirty-seven (22 women, 15 men) student-athletes on the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II At-Large Teams have a 4.00 GPA. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Women's At-Large First Team had an overall 3.97 GPA, while the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Men's At-Large First Team had an overall 3.96 GPA.
