Bloomfield's Edward Ngene Named CACC S-A of the Month for January

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 1, 2024) -- Bloomfield College men's basketball standout Edward Ngene on Friday was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for January 2024, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Ngene earned the award for having a tremendous month on the hardwood, while also excelling in the classroom throughout his career, and giving back to his local community.

On the basketball court, Ngene won several CACC Defensive Player of the Week awards in January. He scored in double-figures five times and shot 50 percent or better from the field in seven games during the month. Ngene logged three double-doubles and totaled 34 blocks during the month to move into first place in NCAA Division II for blocks per game. He swatted away three or more blocks in seven games, including a high of eight in a win over Bridgeport on Jan. 17.

In the classroom, the junior business marketing major from Lindenwold, N.J., sports a cumulative grade point average of 3.80. He has been named to Bloomfield's Dean's List for five-consecutive semesters and was a member of the 2023 CACC Men's Basketball All-Academic Team. He was also placed on the inaugural CACC Academic Honor Roll for the Fall 2023 semester.

In the community, Ngene has joined his teammates in volunteering on campus for open house and other registration events. He also participated in a free basketball clinic for area children that the school hosts during the winter break.

The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month Award is handed out each month from September through May, spanning the course of the academic calendar. The honor recognizes a student-athlete's success in athletics, academic and community involvement. Ngene is the first Bloomfield student-athlete to earn the honor this season.
