WILMINGTON, Del. (June 17, 2019) -- Former Goldey-Beacom men's basketball standout Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) received some attention from the NBA in being one of six players invited to the Philadelphia 76ers Pre-Draft Workout.
 
Johnson the last two seasons has been one of the Lightning's most diligent workers, always in the gym perfecting his jump shot and doing whatever it takes to make himself a batter player.  This season, he closed fourth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with an .847 free throw percentage, 18th with 13.8 points per game, 14th with 158 field goals, 23nd with a .472 shooting percentage and 30th with a .333 three-point percentage.
 
Johnson this season scored in double figures in 23 of his 30 contests, including 27 points at Chestnut Hill and at Dominican (NY).  Most of his work provided instant offense off the bench as he did all this averaging 24.1 minutes per contest.
 
His performance went a long way in Goldey-Beacom (15-15, 12-7 CACC) this season making the CACC semifinals for a second straight year and closing second in the CACC South Division.  GBC opened the season against three opponents (Bentley, Saint Anselm and Saint Thomas Aquinas) who all were nationally ranked at some point and then defeated regionally ranked Bridgeport, 104-87, in the fourth game of the campaign.
 
Goldey-Beacom (20-10, 15-4) in Johnson's junior campaign won the CACC South Division and matched the school record for most wins.  That season, he ended first in the CACC with a .459 three-point percentage, 15th with a .460 field goal percentage, 29th with 39 three-pointers and 31st with 11.9 points per game.
 
"I am so excited for this opportunity Mahir has earned," Goldey-Beacom head coach TJ Dekmar said.  "He is obviously a phenomenal basketball player but he is also one of the hardest working players I have ever seen.  I have no doubt in my mind he will turn a lot of heads during his workout and he is going to have a very successful basketball career."
 
Johnson in 2014 was picked the Delaware County Daily Times All-DelCo Boys' Basketball Player of the Year.
