Dominican's Cory Quimby and Concordia's Jamie Holder Earn Weekly Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 3, 2012) – Dominican's Cory Quimby (Sr. C, Otisville, N.Y.) has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's (CACC) player of the week for the week ending December 2, 2012.  Concordia freshman guard Jamie Holder (Milford, N.Y.) has been selected as CACC's Rookie of the week.

CACC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cory Quimby, Dominican (Sr., C, Otisville, N.Y.) –Major: Criminal Justice
Cory averaged 12.5 points per game and 15.5 rebounds per game to help his team to a 2-0 record on the week.  The senior center recorded back-to-back double-doubles for the Chargers with 15 points and 16 rebounds in victory over Caldwell (77-63) and 10 points and 15 rebounds in a win at Holy Family University (76-74).

Quimby connected on 50 percent of his shots from the floor for the week and 63.6 percent from the line, including a 5-of-7 performance against Caldwell.  The Otisville native also turned in a 16 rebound (seven offensive) performance against Caldwell and a 15 rebound (eight offensive) performance at Holy Family in his 24 minutes on the floor.

CACC MEN'S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jamie Holder, Concordia (Fr., G, Milford, N.H.) – Major: Undecided
Jamie Holder averaged eleven points, 3.5 rebounds and a team-high 5.5 assists per game in a 1-1 week for Concordia. The freshman from Milford averaged 31.5 minutes per game and shot 9-of-14 (64.3%) from the field. Holder scored eleven points in the Clippers' 87-81 victory over Goldey-Beacom and added eleven points in Concordia's 80-79 loss at Felician.

CACC MEN'S BASKETBALL HONORABLE MENTION
Kevin Udo, Bloomfield (Jr., C, West Orange, N.J.) – Major: Nursing
Junior center, Kevin Udo, averaged 15 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3 blocks per game as he helped guide his team to a 2-0 week.  Udo poured in a career-high 26 points, nine rebounds and a season-high five blocks in a 90-75 victory over Chestnut Hill College Saturday.

Antoine Obery, Felician (Sr., F, Roselle, N.J.) – Major: CIS
Obery made the game-winning put-back against Concordia (80-79) en route to a 31 point, 12 rebound performance. The Roselle native also scored 26 points and pulled in 10 rebounds in a 77-72 home loss to Philadelphia where he scored his 1,000th career point.

Garret Kerr, USciences (So., G, Moorestown, N.J.) – Major: Physical Therapist
Kerr played all 40 minutes and scored 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in a 71-68 loss against West Chester.  The Devils' sophomore scored a season-high 29 points while shooting 72.2 percent from the field against Wilmington two days later to help the USciences pick up their first conference game of the season.  Kerr recorded a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds in a 74-53 victory against Nyack and added six assists and three steals in the victory for his best all-around effort of the season.

CACC MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM NOTES
BLOOMFIELD - The Deacons went 1-1 for the week, picking up their first victory of the 2012-2013 season in a home victory over non-conference opponent Adelphi University Saturday afternoon. Sophomore shooting guard Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) totaled 17 points to lead the team in the win, also notching a team-high five steals in the victory. Junior guards Terry Hicks (Neptune, N.J.) and Dondre Whitmore (Trenton, N.J.) notched 10 points apiece in the win, with Hicks leading the club in rebounds (nine) and assists (four) on the afternoon. Sophomore Stacey Upshaw-Goree (Lindenwold, N.J.) reached double-figures in each of the club's two games this week, notching a career-high 15 points in a loss to the University of Bridgeport and 12 points in the victory over Adelphi. Rookie guard Erik Sanders (New York, N.Y.) totaled a career-high 13 points on a perfect 4-4 shooting performance in reserve in the victory over Adelphi.

CALDWELL  - The Cougars began their conference schedule with a 77-63 loss at Dominican on Wednesday. Sophomores Michael Balkovic and Wyatt Polk each registered 17 points, with freshman guard Brian Kenny contributing a career-high 10 points to go with four assists. This week Caldwell takes on Post on Tuesday and Goldey-Beacom on Saturday in a pair of CACC road games.

CHESTNUT HILL - The Griffins opened their home and CACC schedules this week with the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) and Bloomfield College visiting Sorgenti Arena. The fans of Sorgenti Arena were not sold short in Wednesday's home opener as the Griffins trailed for a large majority of the contest before having a shot at defeating NYIT in regulation. The Bears forced overtime, 69-69, where the Griffins separated from the Bears for an 84-80 victory on the hustle and determination of sophomore forward Alssene Saintilus (Irvington, N.J.) and senior guard Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, N.J.). Five Griffins finished in double figures; Saintilus led the pride and tied his career-high with 18 points. Later in the week, the Griffins opened CACC schedule with some of the league's top competition. The Griffins led Bloomfield College twice in the first half, but the Deacons pulled away for an 11-point lead before halftime, 44-33, and held the Griffins off in the second half for a 90-75 victory. Sophomore center Seamus Radtke (Philadelphia, Pa.), was the Griffins top performer with his first career double-double, 15 points and ten rebounds.

CONCORDIA - Concordia dropped their opening game of the week to Felician, 80-79, off a last-second layup by the Golden Falcons. The Clippers then defeated Goldey-Beacom on Friday, 87-81.  The victory marks Concordia's first victory over  the Lighting program.  Norman Pope (Washington, D.C.)  recorded a game-high 23 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and a 10-of-11 performance from the foul line for Concordia. Senior Argelix Gil (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds while sophomore Kyle Kube (West Babylon, N.Y.) came off the bench with a season-high 15 points as five players finished in double-figures for the Clippers. Concordia made a season-best 28 free throws as they committed a season-low six turnovers, their lowest since Feb. 2, 2008. For the upcoming week the Clippers will travel to Nyack on Tuesday and then visit Holy Family on Saturday.

DOMINICAN - The men's basketball team went 2-0 last week with victories over Caldwell and Holy Family to improve to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.   Senior Cory Quimby tallied back-to-back double-doubles in the wins.  This week, the Chargers will host Bloomfield College on Thursday and University of the Sciences on Saturday. 

GOLDEY-BEACOM – The Lightning split a pair of games last week to move their record to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the CACC. After edging Mercy by an 85-76 margin in a non-conference game on Wednesday night, the Lightning dropped a tough 87-81 verdict against Concordia on Friday night at the Meyer Athletic Center. Junior guard A.J. Picard led the Lightning last week by averaging 18.5 points per game, including a career-high 25 points in the win over Mercy. He also added a season-high seven rebounds in the victory for the Lightning. Meanwhile, junior forward Jordan Thorpe tallied a pair of "double double" efforts last week. After scoring 13 points with a season-high 18 rebounds against the Mavericks on Wednesday night, Thorpe tallied 11 points with a game-high 13 rebounds in the loss at Concordia on Friday night. The Lightning, who have won three of their last five games after an 0-3 start, will visit Millersville for a non-conference game on Wednesday before hosting Caldwell on Saturday afternoon.

NYACK COLLEGE - Khalid Samuels, a sophomore from Mt. Vernon, NY, averaged 18.5 points over two games for Nyack this past week.  The Warriors have two contests remaining before the week of finals, with home games Tuesday vs. Concordia and Saturday vs. Philadelphia University.

PHILADELPHIA - The Rams (5-1, 2-0 CACC) picked up a tough 77-72 road win at Felician on Saturday afternoon. Senior guard Jim Connolly (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) tied a career-high with nine made three-pointers, including four in a row to open the game, on his way to a season-high 31 points. Connolly became the 34th player in school history to score 1,200 career points and is up to 32nd on the all-time scoring list with 1,227 points. Junior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) hit the eventual game-winning layup with 1:21 remaining for two of his career-high 21 points. Philadelphia has two conference games coming up this week against Holy Family on Tuesday and at Nyack on Saturday.

USCIENCES - Sophomore Garret Kerr (Moorestown, N.J.) scored a season high 29 points against Wilmington on Wednesday while shooting 72.2% from the field.  He also had his streak of consecutive CACC games with a double-double snapped against the Wildcats, grabbing only eight rebounds.  Kerr recorded his 5th double-double of the season against Nyack, with 22 points and a season-high 15 rebounds.   Sciences has two road games this week, a non-conference tilt against Cheyney University on Wednesday  and a conference cross-over game at Dominican College on Saturday.

WILMINGTON -  The Wildcats fell to 0-7 overall with a pair of CACC road losses this week, first falling by two points to USciences on Wednesday before losing to Post on Saturday. Wilmington had a shot to win at the buzzer, but a Herb Dennis (Ridgley, Md.) three-pointer rang out to give the Devils the win. Dennis led the Wildcats with 27 points on the week while Isiah Mason (Philadelphia, PA) came back from injury to score 25 points in the two contests. Mason also led the team with three three-pointers on the week and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line. Brandon Fox (Deptford, NJ) led the team 1ith 14 rebounds on the week while Dusan Kojic (Belgrade, Serbia) was the only other Wildcat to reach double figures with 11. The Wildcats return to the WU Athletics Complex this week after three games on the road. First they face Chestnut Hill on Tuesday before heading to Felician on Saturday.
