NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Oct. 4, 2022) -- Mason Kucy and Goldey-Beacom College ended up leading wire-to-wire as both claimed their respective titles on Tuesday during the third and final round of the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Golf Championship at the Watertown Golf Club in Watertown, Conn. Kucy led the Lightning as he won individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 218 (+5), including carding a 76 (+5) on Tuesday. His play sparked Goldey as the Lightning won the team championship by six strokes over crosstown rival Wilmington University.

Goldey-Beacom turned in a team score of 309 on Tuesday in the third round, as it finished with a two-day total of 897 (+45). WilmU turned in a team-low round of 295 on Tuesday to nearly pull off the come-from-behind tournament win, as the Wildcats entered the third round 20 strokes back of GBC. GBC won the program's first team championship since the 2004-05 season.

Kucy posted three birdies during his third round including on holes 5, 7 and 11. He led wire-to-wire in the individual standings as he posted a two-under-par, 69, in round one and then had a 73 (+2) in the second round on Monday.

Two of Kucy's teammates joined him in the top 10 of the individual standings including Pablo Saenz Avila (T-3rd) and Hunter McGee (T-7th). Avila, who birdied the 18th, which helped him earn All-Tournament honors. He shot a 74 (+3) on Tuesday. McGee posted a 79 in the third round for an eight-over-par day, but it wasn't enough to send him out of the top 10.

Camilo Samur tied for 16th and Adrian Bonilla logged a 21st-place finish to help GBC bring home the championship hardware. The Lightning also earned the CACC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional Tournament in early May 2023.

Wilmington's 295 in the third round was sparked by Matthew Pulgini's one-over, 72, which was the low round of the day for the 35 competitors in the field. Tyler Cleaves and Pablo Quintero each carded 74s (+3) during the final round to help the Wildcats nearly pull off the impressive comeback.
