WATERTOWN, Conn. (October 5, 2021) -- Five birdies by a trio of golfers over the final two holes propelled Wilmington to a come-from-behind performance to claim the 2021 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday at the Watertown Golf Club in Watertown, Conn. It marks the program's 10th conference championship in its last 11 events competed in.

In addition to Wilmington's performance, Goldey-Beacom College's Hunter McGee claimed the 2021 CACC Golf Championship Individual Medalist honors with a two-round total of 142 (E). It marked the second major individual honor for McGee, who in the spring was named the Spring 2021 CACC Men's Golf Player of the Year.

TEAM COMPETITION
The Wildcats trailed Goldey-Beacom by at least four strokes heading into the final few holes of the tournament on Tuesday, but Tyler Cleaves and Matthew Pulgini each birdied the 17th and 18th, respectively, to spark WilmU's rally to victory. In addition to those four birdies, Pablo Quintero birdied the 18th. Wilmington and G-B each finished with a two-day total of 594 (+26), but the Wildcats earned the team title due to the tiebreaker, as the squad's drop score -- Quintero's final-round 80 -- was lower than Goldey's final-round drop score of 84 -- carded by Carlos Riveras. Wilmington locked up the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional in early May 2022.

>> Pulgini was the highest Wildcat finisher, as he placed second with a 144 (+2). He fired a final-round 72 (+1) to earn all-tournament honors.

>> Cleaves tied for fourth with a two-round total of 146 (+4), including an even-par, 72, in Tuesday's final 18. He joined Pulgini on the all-tournament team.

>> Jan Lekes and Nathan Potts tied for 13 and placed 15, respectively. Lekes finished with a 152 (+10), while Potts posted a two-day score of 153 (+11). Both players shot 74's (+2) on Tuesday.

>> Quintero finished 22nd in the individual standings (158, +16).

>> Post University rounded out the top three of the team standings with a third-place showing of 601 (+33).

INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION
McGee posted three birdies during his final round, as he posted his second-straight even-par score (71) to capture individual medalist honors. It marked the second time in the last five-and-a-half months that McGee finished among the top two in the individual standings of the conference championship. He placed second at the spring championship back in late April. McGee birdied the seventh and ninth holes on the front nine, and then posted a birdie on the par-five, 16th, to get back to even for his round and the tournament. He bested the field by two strokes.

>> Ethan Phillips of Post finished third in the standings, as his final-round, 71 (E), completed his two-day total of 145 (+3) to place in third alone.

>> Alejandro Gomez tied Cleaves in fourth place to also earn all-tournament honors. After shooting an even-par, 71, on Monday, he returned with a solid, 75 (+4) to earn individual tournament accolades.
