Goldey-Beacom's Gonzalo Moreno Named 2019-20 CACC Men's Golf Player & Rookie of the Year

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 20, 2020) -- Goldey-Beacom College standout Gonzalo Moreno on Monday was named the 2019-20 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Golf Player and Rookie of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Moreno's two major awards highlighted the 2019-20 all-conference honorees who were also announced on Monday. The CACC Men's Golf major award winners and all-conference honorees are determined by the final individual rankings according to Golfstat, which specializes in collegiate rankings for the sport.

Moreno had a fantastic debut season at the collegiate level for the Lightning. He produced top-six finishes in each of his seven tournaments, including a victory at the Jefferson Fall Invitational (Sept. 30) as he shot a four-under-par, 68, at The ACE Club. Moreno also produced back-to-back second-place finishes in the Le Moyne Fall Invitational (Oct. 18-19) and the Griffin Invitational (Oct. 28-29). During the Le Moyne tournament, he carded an opening round, 71 (-1), and followed that up with a 70 (-2).

Moreno tied for third at the 2019 CACC Championship in early October with a two-round total of 150 (+6). He opened the tournament at White Beeches Country Club in Haworth, N.J., with a first round 74 (+2), and followed it up with a 76.

The other major awards handed out on Monday included Wilmington University's Mark Hall being named CACC Coach of the Year, and Dominican College earning the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award. Hall guided the Wildcats back to the winner's circle at the CACC Championship in October, marking the program's ninth conference crown in the last 10 seasons. He also helped lead the Wildcats to strong showings in other top tournaments throughout the region and nationally.

Moreno was one of four Lightning standouts to earn all-league status. He was joined by teammates Hunter McGee, Shea Murphy and Pablo Saenz Avila.
