Wilmington Claims 8th Straight CACC Golf Championship; Concordia's Evan Hong Wins Individual Title

MIDDLETOWN, Del. (October 2, 2017) -- Wilmington University won its eighth-consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Championship on Monday, as the Wildcats shot a final-round 299 (+15) to finish with a two-day score of 586 (+18) and a full 20 shots ahead of the field at Back Creek Golf Club in Middletown, Del. In addition to WilmU's celebration on Monday, Concordia College's Evan Hong won individual medalist honors at the championship with a two-day total of 144 (+2), including a final-round 73.

All five Wildcats competing in the championship finished among the top eight of the standings, including four in the top five. Enrique Valverde was the highest finisher, as he was runner-up to Hong with a two-round score of 145 (+3). He posted a one-over-par, 72, during Monday's final round. Joey Russo was a stroke back in third (146, +4), while Ryan Rucinski was fifth at 147 (+5). Braden McKay tied for fifth with Dominican College's Leonard Lee at 148 (+6). All six individuals were named to the CACC All-Tournament Team, as the top-five finishers and ties earn that distinction.

Hong had a strong final round after carding an opening-round 71 (E) on Sunday. He birdied the eighth and 16th holes to highlight his final round and seal his individual CACC Championship. Hong and his teammates helped lead Concordia to a runner-up finish at the tournament with a 606 (+38). Dominican College rounded out the top three of the team standings with a two-round score of 612 (+44).
