NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 16, 2015) – Wilmington University men’s golf standout Andreas Lunding (Horsholm, Denmark) was named the 2015 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year on Thursday, which highlighted the all-conference award winners in the sport that were announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. 

Wilmington swept the major awards, as joining Lunding were Joey Russo (Sewell, N.J.) as the CACC Rookie of the Year and Harry Jennings as the BSN Sports Coach of the Year. 

Felician College captured the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award for its efforts in helping to grow the game and CACC brand through goodwill and work ethic.

Lunding has averaged 75.95 strokes per round this season, as he is the top-ranked golfer in the East Region according to the Golfstat standings. He has five top-10 finishes this year, including a trio of top-five placings. The junior’s highlight of the year was winning medalist honors at the Goldey-Beacom Spring Invite on March 23, as he shot a one-under, 71, to pace the field. The win propelled the Wildcats to a first-place finish in the tournament.

Lunding was also placed on the All-CACC Team for his efforts, marking the third-consecutive year he earned all-conference accolades. Lunding’s player-of-the-year honor marks his second major year-end CACC award in three years, as he took home conference rookie-of-the-year status in 2013. 

Russo has had a sensational debut season at the collegiate level, as he ranks fourth in the region. Russo has posted a 75.57 scoring average per round and has totaled four top-10 finishes this season. His biggest moment came on Sunday and Monday at the Cottrell Invitational, as he carded a 144 (+3) to win the two-round tournament. He shot a two-over-par, 73, in round one and followed with an even better, 71 (E), to lock up the individual title. Russo joined Lunding on the All-CACC Team for his outstanding play.

Jennings was named the league’s coach of the year, as voted on by CACC sports information directors. Jennings’ guidance of the Wildcats this year has been nothing short of brilliant, as he earned the CACC Coach-of-the-Year honor for the fourth-straight season. Lunding’s player-of-the-year honor is the sixth during Jennings’ tenure as Wilmington’s head coach. Russo’s top rookie award is the third time a Wildcat has captured that honor since Jennings arrived at the school.

Joining Lunding and Russo on the All-CACC Golf Team included Nyack College’s Matthew Yun (Flushing, N.Y.) ranked 10^th in the region; Concordia College’s Mos Bangpetch (Chonburi, Thailand) and Eutimio Fernandez-Meade (Mexico City, Mexico) ranked 16th and 32^nd, respectively; Wilmington’s Freddy Braun (Stuttgart, Germany), Alexander Lautenschlaeger (Bad Zwischenahn, Germany) and Sam Clark (Hampstead, Md.) ranked 18^th, 26^th and 30^th, respectively; Chestnut Hill College’s Sam Riemer (Canton, Mass.) ranked 28^th; and Goldey-Beacom College’s Garrett Brown (Severn, Md.) ranked 31^st.

The announcement of the all-conference team comes just days before the 2015 CACC Golf Championship tees off at Blue Bell Country Club in Blue Bell, Pa. The championship will begin with the practice round at the course on Monday, followed by the championship banquet during the evening. The tournament’s first round begins on Tuesday at 8 a.m., and the final round will tee off at the same time on Wednesday. The winner of the championship will earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Super Regional in early May in Ohio.
