POST WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT CACC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. – Post University won its fifth consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Championship by two strokes today at Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield, Conn. Eagle teammates David McGregor and Lee Wanklyn each shot a 147 through 36 holes and competed in a playoff to determine the individual champion, which McGregor won on the second playoff hole. McGregor has won the individual title three straight years. Wilmington University was the runner-up, just two strokes behind the Eagles.
McGregor and Wanklyn led the Eagles on the second day of the
tournament by each carding a 
71, which served as the best round for any player in the
tournament. They also both shot 76 in the opening round. Also
placing in the top 10 for the Eagles was freshman Thomas Rees, who
fired a two-day total of 156 (74, 82). Post, which entered the week
as the fourth-ranked team in the East Region, shot a 615 (310, 305)
as a team. For winning the CACC Championship, the Eagles have
earned the conference’s automatic berth into the 2010 NCAA
Division II Regional Tournament.
Down by four strokes entering the final round of the tournament, Wilmington nearly came back to win the championship by firing a 303 today, which was two shots better than Post. Freshman Dan Ott led Wilmington with a third place finish as a result of shooting a 151 (79, 72). Fellow newcomer Paul Tighe finished fourth with a 153 (77, 76), while freshmen John Perrine tied for fifth with a total of 155 (78, 77). Freshman Jeff Whiteside also finished in the top 10 by carding a 158 (80, 78). Wilmington entered the week as the top-ranked team in the East Region.
Goldey-Beacom College finished third behind two top 10 finishers in Devon Ripley and Matthew Quigley. Ripley carded a 155 (76, 79) to tie for fifth place, while Quigley fired a 159 (77, 82) to earn 10th place. The Lightning, who are ranked ninth in the region this week, shot a 635 (321, 314) as a team.
Nyack College finished fourth behind Inigo Betrain, who finished in a tie for fifth place with a two-day score of 155 (80, 75). Holy Family University rounded out the top five after combining for a 661 (339, 322) as a team.
