Felician's Bruce Strickland Named CACC Student-Athlete of the Month for May 2018

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (June 18, 2018) -- Felician University baseball standout Bruce Strickland on Monday was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for May, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Strickland earned the honor for demonstrating success on the diamond, in the classroom and in the surround community. He is the ninth and final monthly honoree for the 2017-18 athletic season.

Strickland had a solid month at the dish for the Golden Falcons, as he batted .333 with two doubles, seven runs scored, five runs batted in and only striking out just once. He helped guide Felician to the CACC South Division Championship and a spot in the conference championship final.

Strickland's month of May capped a tremendous 2018 campaign for the senior, as he was named to the All-CACC First Team at third base, while also being a consensus First-Team All-East Region selection at the position. Strickland also took his place among Division II's best, as he was named an Honorable-Mention All-American by the NCBWA. He was also named the Felician Co-Senior Male Student-Athlete of the Year.

For his career, Strickland leaves Felician as the baseball program's all-time leader in games (203), hits (264) and runs scored (175).

In the classroom, Strickland has a 3.38 cumulative grade point average in his major of criminal justice. He was also an inductee into the Chi Alpha Sigma College Athlete Honor Society.

Strickland has also given back to his surrounding community by taking part in community outreach initiatives with his collegiate summer team for two seasons (Covington Lumberjacks of the Valley League). In his role, Strickland met and instructed youth baseball players in the Covington (Va.) area to improve their skills, while also serving as a mentor for area youth.

The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month award is handed out each month from September through May, which spans the academic/athletic calendar. The award recognizes a student-athlete who is not only successful in their respective sport, but is a leader in the classroom with academic success, and gives back to their local communities through acts of kindness.
