2015 CACC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP BANQUET PROGRAM

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 4, 2015) – Wilmington University standout Sam Goines on Monday was named the 2015 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The announcement of Goines winning the league's top-player honor highlighted the 2015 All-CACC Baseball Teams that were also announced by the conference.

Joining Goines as major year-end award winners were Felician College's Bruce Strickland as the CACC Rookie of the Year, Chestnut Hill College's Dominic Raia as the CACC Pitcher of the Year, Wilmington's Brian August as the BSN Sports CACC Coach of the Year, and the University of the Sciences as the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award winner. 

Goines has had a sensational 2015 season to date, as he leads the CACC with a .420 batting average. He also leads the conference in three other categories including runs (46), hits (60) and on-base percentage (.517). Goines has belted one home run on the year, while also driving in 35 runs, which is the fourth highest mark in the league.  His 83 total bases are the second most in the CACC and his five triples are the third highest mark. Goines has also been a standout on the base paths, as his 20 stolen bases are the fifth most in the conference.

Goines, a senior outfielder, was also named to the All-CACC First-Team for his offensive heroics and solid defensive play. It marked the second-straight year he earned all-conference status from the CACC, as he picked up second-team accolades in 2014. 

Raia took home the CACC's top-hurler honor after posting an 8-1 record with a 1.51 earned run average.  He led the league with 94 strikeouts, while walking just 26.  He tossed a pair of complete-game performances including one in Saturday's 6-4 win over Felician in the first round of the 2015 CACC Baseball Championship. 

Raia also locked up a spot on the All-CACC First-Team, marking the first time in his career he landed on the conference's top unit. However, it was the third-consecutive year he earned all-league status as he made the All-CACC Second-Team in both 2013 and 2014.

Strickland was named the CACC's top rookie following an impressive season that saw him post a .350 batting average with 25 RBI, nine doubles and two triples. He slugged .441 and had a .434 on-base percentage. Strickland totaled 50 hits, which was the seventh highest mark in the league. 

August earned the BSN Sports Coach-of-the-Year award after guiding the Wildcats to the 2015 CACC regular season championship with an 18-2 conference record and a 30-12 mark overall. 

Goines and Raia were not the only two individuals named to the All-CACC First-Team. Joining the duo on the league's top team were Brennan Price (1B, Felician), Josh Swirchak (2B, Wilmington), Mike Annone (3B, Wilmington), Christian Adorno (SS, Wilmington), Matt Lopes (C, Wilmington), Cristian Fiorito (OF, Concordia College), Erik Poldroo (OF, Concordia College), Mike Costello (P, Post University), Jamie Treml (P, Wilmington), Tyler Fries (Relief P, Wilmington), Frank Samluk (UTIL, Wilmington), and Brendan Looby (DH, Chestnut Hill).

Fourteen (14) student-athletes made the All-CACC Second-Team, including: Carlos Lopez (1B, Dominican College), Alec Craig (2B, Chestnut Hill), Dylan Pastor (3B, Post), Robert Alonso (SS, Dominican), John Brocious (C, Philadelphia University), Jayson Gray (OF, Dominican), Michael McLaughlin (OF, Chestnut Hill), Alex Wright (OF, Post), Robert Humes (P, Caldwell), Peter Martinez (P, Dominican), Francesco Scudiero (Bloomfield College), Corey Pic (Relief P, Dominican), Brian Bilello (UTIL, Concordia College), and Don Walsh (DH, Post).

The announcement of the All-CACC Baseball team comes just days before the finals of the 2015 CACC Baseball Championship will be held at Wilmington University. The finals will be held Thursday through Saturday with the championship final set for Saturday at 11 a.m., with an "if necessary" game to follow at 2 p.m.

The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference is an NCAA Division II Conference composed of 14 institutions in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The member institutions are Bloomfield College, Caldwell University, Chestnut Hill College, Concordia (N.Y.) College, Dominican (N.Y.) College, Felician College, Georgian Court University, Goldey-Beacom College, Holy Family University, Nyack College, Philadelphia University, Post University of Waterbury, University of the Sciences, and Wilmington University.
