MUNOZ AND MESSERIAN EARN BASEBALL WEEKLY AWARDS

NEW HAVEN, CT - Michael Munoz of Dominican College has earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player of the week honors for the week ending Sunday, May 3. Phil Messerian of Nyack College was named Pitcher of the Week, while Dominican's Alexi Colon was chosen Rookie of the Week.

Munoz, a sophomore designated hitter from the Bronx, NY, led Dominican to a 7-1 week with a .480 batting average, 12 runs batted in, seven runs scored, three doubles and one home run. He drove in five runs along with a homer against USP on May 1 and went 4-for-7 with four runs scored in a double-header against Caldwell.

Messerian, a 6-2 junior right-hander from Fair Lawn, NJ, helped Nyack gain a CACC Tournament berth by going 1-1 with two saves behind a 1.12 ERA last week. He struck out 16 batters in 16 innings with zero walks. He earned one win and two saves in a 3-game sweep over Post.

Colon, a 5-8 outfielder from Millville, NJ, hit .333 in a 7-1 week with 11 runs scored, eight RBI's, six doubles, two triples, one home run and two stolen bases. He went 4-for-4 with three runs and three doubles against Caldwell on April 28.

Honorable Mention

Johnny Figueroa, Post (Sr., OF, Bronx, NY) - Hit .393 in eight games with 11 RBI and eight runs scored.

Ricky Maldonado, Bloomfield (Sr., SS, Lakewood, NJ) - Hit .458 in six games with eight RBI and four runs scored.

Jared Farbman, Philadelphia (So., RHP, Philadelphia, PA) - Allowed three hits and one run in 8.0 IP vs. Bloomfield.

Steve Godowski, Bloomfield (So., RHP, Sayreville, NJ) - Threw a 9-inning complete game against Philadelphia and allowed only four hits and one run with eight strikeouts.

CACC Notes

Bloomfield - The Deacons earned the #2 seed in the CACC's post season tournament with Sunday's 3-2 win over Post University. Ricky Maldonado finished the day 7-for-9 with six RBI's, earning his 100th career hit in only his 2nd full season as a position player. Maldonado also locked down the 3-2 win for the Deacons, pitching the final 1 2/3 in his first pitching appearance of the season. Jon Walsh picked up win, going 5 1/3 allowing one earned and striking out four. Steve Godowski pitched his 4th complete game game of the season against Philadelphia University on Saturday, going 9.0 innings allowing 2 walks and striking out eight in his 6th win of the season.

Dominican - The Chargers clinched their second CACC regular-season championship in the last four years. The team is making its fifth straight CACC Tournament appearance. The Chargers have won 20 of their last 21 games and have been the top-ranked team in the East Region all season.

Felician - Junior LHP John Calise broke the single-season school record for appearances (and tied CACC D-II mark) with his 25th on Saturday at Wilmington. Senior CF Vinnie DiBenedetti became Felician's all-time leader in games played with 196. Junior LHP Danny Conti tossed his first career shutout against Nyack last Tuesday. The Golden Falcons miss the CACC Tournament for the first time since 2005.

Nyack - The Warriors return to the CACC Tournament after a 5-year absence, as they improve to 19-15 overall and 15- 12 in the CACC after a 4-3 week. Forced to play 11 CACC games in 10 days, Nyack responded to the challenge with a 6-5 finish that clinched a tournament spot and their first winning season in five years. They are currently ranked #8 in the NCCAA Div. 1.

Philadelphia - The Rams closed the 2009 season with a 5-1 week, notching a three-game sweep of University of the Sciences and dominating #2 CACC-ranked Bloomfield College with two of three wins in their season series finale.
