NEW HAVEN, CT - Marcos Torres of Felician College has been selected th e Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 5. Robert Williams of Chestnut Hill College was tabbed Pitcher of the Week, while USP's Luke Peyton was named Rookie of the Week.

Torres, a 6-foot-1 catcher from Miami, batted .533 (8 for 15) with two doubles, a home run and seven runs batted in during the Golden Falcons' 3-1 week. He had three hits in Thursday's win over Molloy College, then went 5 for 8 in a doubleheader sweep of Post University. Both teams are regionally ranked. In Sunday's first game, Torres put Felician ahead for good, 3-2, with a sixth-inning, two-run, inside-the-park home run in an eventual 5-4 victory. He slugged .867 and had a .611 on-base percentage for the week.

Williams, a 6-2 junior right-hander from Allentown, PA, hurled a 9-inning, complete game one- hitter against Philadelphia in a 1-0 victory for the Griffins. He fanned three batters in the triumph and walked four.

Peyton, a 6-2 freshman right-hander from Haddonfield, NJ, pitched a total of 9.2 innings in two relief appearances for the Devils and allowed no earned runs and only three hits along with 10 strikeouts. He earned a victory against Bloomfield after not allowing a hit and striking out two in 4.0 innings.

Honorable Mention

Cody Holliday, Wilmington (Sr., OF, 6-3, Havre de Grace, MD) - Hit .609 in seven games with five RBI and eight runs scored.

Jared Farbman, Philadelphia (So., RHP, 6-4, Philadelphia, PA) - Allowed only one run and two hits and fanned 13 in 8.0 innings of work in a victory over Caldwell.

Ray Keelan, Caldwell (Jr., OF/P, 6-1, Barnegat, NJ) - Hit .417 for the week with seven runs and four RBI. Also earned a win on the mound with a complete game victory over Saint Rose.

PJ Rodriguez, Nyack (Jr., SS, Levittown, PR) - Hit .700 in three games by collecting seven hits in 10 AB's. Hit one homer, drove in three runs and scored three times.

Bloomfield - In a 2-1 week the Deacons received solid offensive performances from sophomores Chris Rosa (5-for-9), and Alex Sepulveda (5-for-7, 4 RBI). In a 12-2 win over USP, Steve Godowski fanned 12 Devils out of 15 possible outs and Rosa went 4-4 in a game called to darkness after 5 innings.

Felician - Felician scored 12 times in the first inning of a 17-8 home win over regionally-ranked Molloy College on Thursday. Three Golden Falcons went 2 for 2 in the frame. Senior IF/P Anthony Spina had his first career three-hit game in that contest. In Sunday's sweep of regionally-ranked Post, junior P Jeff Calabrese earned his first save in nearly two years in Game 1, and freshman P Victor Monteagudo picked up his first career save in Game 2. Junior C Marcos Torres drove in the go-ahead run in both games, including a two-run inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning of the opener that put his team ahead, 3-2. Torres also had a go-ahead sixth inning RBI in an eventual 6-5 loss at Bloomfield last Tuesday.

Philadelphia - After sweeping Caldwell this past weekend, the Rams look to keep rolling in the conference, with five CACC match-ups this week. The Rams have a single game at Caldwell (4/7), a double header vs. Wilmington (4/8) and a double header at Felician (4/11).

USP - Freshman Luke Peyton (Haddonfield, N.J.) earned his first collegiate win with four innings of no-hit, no run relief. Peyton did not allow an earned run in 9 2/3 innings of work this week, and has allowed just two earned runs in his last 17 2/3 innings of relief work (1.01 ERA). The Devils won their second conference game of the season with a 7-6 win over Bloomfield on Saturday. Seniors Pete McCauley (New Tripoli, Pa.) and David Kittle (Maple Shade, N.J.) hit safely in all three games this week to extend their hitting streaks to six games apiece.
