WILMINGTON'S UMBA NAMED BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW HAVEN, CT - Wilmington University's Matt Umba has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 8. Bloomfield's Matthew Snyder and Felician's Albie Sanguiliano shared Pitcher of the Week honors, while Felician's Victor Monteagudo was selected Rookie of the Week.

Umba, a 6-0 sophomore outfielder from West Deptford, NJ, hit .438 in nine games with two home runs, three doubles, nine runs scored and nine runs batted in last week. He collected at least one hit in all nine games, including two hits in five contests. He homered and knocked in three runs at St. Thomas and had two hits, two runs and two RBI vs. Mercyhurst.

Snyder, a 6-0 junior lefty from Bensalem, PA, earned a victory over Saint Rose by allowing only one earned run on six hits in seven innings of work with three strikeouts. Snyder is now 2-0 this season.

Sanguiliano, a 6-1 senior right-hander from Flemington, NJ, also picked up a win against Saint Rose by taking a shutout into the ninth inning of an eventual 7-3 win. In eight-plus innings, the senior right-hander allowed two earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts.

Monteagudo, a freshman righty from West Palm Beach, FL, picked up his first career victory with 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief against Concordia on Saturday. He entered with two on and two out in the sixth inning, and recorded a strikeout to preserve a 3-3 tie. He then finished the contest, allowing one hit and striking out six batters in the Golden Falcons' 8-3 triumph.

Alex Del Valle, Felician (Jr., SS, 6-0, Miami, FL) - Hit .529 in four games with five RBI and seven runs scored.

Jared Farbman, Philadelphia (So., RHP, 6-4, Philadelphia, PA) - Pitched well vs. #10 Franklin Pierce by allowing three runs in 7.0 innings with no walks and seven strikeouts.

George Kochu, Chestnut Hill (So., SS, 5-8, Pottstown, PA) - Hit .346 in eight games with seven runs, four RBI and two doubles.

CACC Notes

Bloomfield - Matthew Snyder earned his second victory of the season, pitching a complete game against The College of Saint Rose. Snyder surrendered 6 hits, struck out 2 and walked none. In 13 innings this season, Snyder is now 2-0 with 0 walks in 13 innings. The Deacon catchers have hit the ball well since arriving in FL on Saturday. James Seck and Alex Sepulveda have combined to hit .625 in three games last week (5-8).
