Wilmington Claims Ninth-Consecutive CACC Alfred R. Restaino, Sr. Cup for Men's Sports

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 24, 2018) -- Wilmington University on Thursday claimed its ninth-consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Alfred R. Restaino, Sr. Cup for Men's Sports, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The Wildcats claimed the 2017-18 Cup thanks to conference titles in both men's golf and baseball, along with other strong performances from men's sports teams on the New Castle, Del., campus.

The point system used for the award takes into account each athletic program’s finish in both the 2017-18 CACC regular season contests and conference tournaments. Each institution receives a combined point total and the sum is then divided by the number of sports the institution sponsors. The award is named after the late Bloomfield College Director of Athletics and Head Coach Alfred R. Restaino, Sr., who served a vital role in not just the school's athletic department but also in the formation of the CACC.

Wilmington posted a league-high average of 11.6667, followed by Bloomfield College in second place with a score of 11.1500. Jefferson rounded out the top three with a mark of 10.4286.

Men's Golf got the season started with a CACC Championship in early October, as the Wildcats rallied during the second round with a score of 299 to win the program's eighth-straight conference crown under head coach Harry Jennings. Baseball kept it up for WilmU in the spring, as head coach Brian August's club won twice against Felician University on Championship Sunday of the CACC tournament to claim the program's first league title since 2015. In addition to those titles, men's soccer, men's basketball and men's lacrosse each reached their respective post-season CACC tournaments. The men's lacrosse reached the CACC semifinals in their first season as a varsity sport.

Bloomfield reached the second-place spot in the final standings due in large part to its men's track & field team winning the CACC Championship under the guidance of head coach Lisa Morgan-Richman. The men's basketball team captured the CACC North Division Regular Season title, while men's soccer reached the conference semifinals.

Jefferson boasted CACC titles from its men's cross country and men's basketball programs, as the Rams climbed into the third spot. The school also benefitted with a regular season title from the men's soccer team.
