Wilmington Wildcats on Top Once Again as School Claims 10th-Straight CACC Men's Restaino Cup

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 22, 2019) -- Wilmington University made it 10 years in a row on Tuesday, as the Wildcats claimed the 2018-19 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Alfred R. Restaino Sr., Cup for Men's Sports Excellence, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. WilmU posted an average score of 12.0357 to win the award for the 10th-consecutive campaign, as the streak began during the 2009-10 athletic season.

Wilmington held first place in the standings following the winter sports season and used strong showings by several male spring sports teams to clinch the Restaino Cup once again. The highlight of the spring season was baseball claiming its second-consecutive CACC Championship, as the Wildcats defeated Dominican College in the conference final back on May 11 in Waterbury, Conn.

Wilmington's men's lacrosse team also qualified for the postseason by reaching the CACC semifinals, and the school's men's outdoor track & field team competing at the varsity level for the first time in school history turned in a respectable fifth-place showing out of 12 schools at the CACC Championship on May 5.

Wilmington's claim to the 2018-19 Restaino Cup was also bolstered by men's cross country winning the CACC Championship in the fall and its men's soccer team earning the CACC Regular Season Championship and reaching the league final.

The point system used for the award takes into account each athletic program’s finish in both the 2018-19 CACC regular season contests and conference tournaments. Each institution receives a combined point total and the sum is then divided by the number of sports the institution sponsors. The award is named after the late Bloomfield College Director of Athletics and Head Coach Alfred R. Restaino, Sr., who served a vital role in not just the school's athletic department but also in the enhancement of the CACC.

Georgian Court University and Bloomfield College rounded out the top three of the standings, as the Lions were second with a mark of 11.3500 and the Bears were third at 11.2000.

GCU made a strong run for the men's award during the spring, as the school's men's lacrosse and men's outdoor track & field squads each won their respective conference championships.

Bloomfield's men's track & field team earned runner-up honors during its championship meet, while Bears baseball qualified for the final four of the CACC Baseball Championship.
