MONTCLAIR, N.J. (April 17, 2016) -- One of the pioneers and true legends of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) took his rightful place in the CACC Hall of Fame on Saturday, as the late Alfred R. Restaino, Sr. was officially inducted with a pre-game ceremony prior to the Bloomfield College - University of the Sciences baseball doubleheader at Yogi Berra Stadium in Montclair, N.J.

The ceremony featured a brief script being read about all of the accomplishments of Mr. Restaino, who was a student-athlete, coach an director of athletics at Bloomfield College. More importantly, he helped form, guide and direct the CACC for more than 30 years, helping the conference be able to achieve the success it experiences today.

Bloomfield Director of Athletics Sheila Wooten gave a few remarks about the impact of Mr. Restaino, and then CACC Commissioner Dan Mara spoke about how he provided a vision and leadership for the league to grow from the NAIA to NCAA Division II. The Restaino family was on hand to take part in the ceremony and accepted a framed portrait from the conference office. Alfred R. Restaino, Jr., then spoke to the crowd and shared several memories of his father. Restaino Jr. then threw out a first pitch before the games got underway.

Restaino Sr. served the CACC for over 34 years as an athletic administrator and coach at Bloomfield College. Prior to that, he distinguished himself as a student-athlete at Bloomfield. Mr. Restaino’s dedication and vision helped to forge the CACC as it is today. He served numerous terms as President of the CACC and was instrumental in the conference’s move to NCAA Division II from the NAIA. His leadership carried the conference through difficult times and his forward thinking laid the groundwork for the CACC to grow and prosper as a conference.

In November of 2007, the CACC renamed its Commissioner’s Cup to the Alfred R. Restaino, Sr. Cup, which is awarded annually to the top performing men’s and women’s athletic programs.

Mr. Restaino, who passed away on Dec. 30, 2015, is one of six inductees in the inaugural class of the CACC Hall of Fame. The announcement of the Class of 2015 was made on Sept. 1, 2015 and included USciences' Bobby Morgan, Georgian Court University's Carol Walters, The King's College's Norm Wilhelmi, Dominican College's Maryellen Massey Montera and Goldey-Beacom College's Michael Tobiason.
