Nyack Tops Both Men's & Women's Team Sportsmanship Award Standings Following Winter Sports Season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 22, 2018) -- Nyack College finds itself atop both the men's and women's 2017-18 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Team Sportsmanship Award standings following the winter sports season, as announced on Thursday by Commissioner Dan Mara. The women boast a mark of 25.25, while the men sport a score of 22.33.

Nyack was identified as the first-place school in the updated standings for both men and women by the total number of sportsmanship votes the institution received over the course of the fall and winter seasons in men's and women's sports, divided by the total number of male and female sports sponsored.

Nyack's mark of 25.25 was tops on the women's side, followed by Georgian Court University (2nd, 12.50) and Wilmington University (10.40) rounding out the top three.

Nyack was propelled to the top of the women's standings, as both its women's soccer and volleyball programs won their respective team sportsmanship awards, while women's basketball finished second in the voting for its award. Georgian Court's total of 44 points in the women's basketball sportsmanship standings enabled the Lions to capture that award.

The Warriors were propelled to the top of the men's standings, as both the men's soccer and men's basketball squads won their respective sportsmanship awards. University of the Sciences (2nd, 16.00) and Goldey-Beacom College (15.33) rounded out the top three on the men's side.

Each sport's team sportsmanship award is voted on by the league's head coaches in their respective sport. Head coaches speak with their student-athletes prior to voting to gain feedback on which opposing teams demonstrated outstanding class and character throughout the season.

The CACC will announce its final Men's and Women's Overall Team Sportsmanship Award standings following the completion of the spring sports season in late May.
